This is starting soon (on HBO at least), and I thought we're all big enough nerds to talk about it in its own thread. So... Watchmen! It's set some time after the comics, with the things that happened in said comics being canon. Including the squid. A bunch of new characters, and a few returning old ones (Jeremy Irons as Veidt oh my). Alan Moore does not approve. But here is a trailer Edited by Mola_Ram at 19:25:47 15-10-2019 |

Registered 6 years agoThe film was OK. What was edgelord about it, it was a pretty straightforward retelling of the comic. -

Registered 8 years agoYeah I didn't see anything edgelord about it, he changed the ending but it was pretty a frame for frame retelling of it, obviously it had his patented slow mo and shit but edgelord is a reach. -

Registered 6 years agoI just got the sense that Snyder shot it as if they were cool and not sleazy creeps.
Rorschach is not supposed to be the hero. The comic was anti superhero not a cool dark edgy thing. -

Registered 14 years agoI didn't like Nite Owl compound fracturing everyone he laid his hands on, made a bit less impactful when he does actually lose his cool and batter the knot top in the bar after Mason is killed.
But otherwise, I think the film's pretty good. As good as it could be. Matthew Goode has even grown on me as Adrian and I hated him at the time.
The Doc Manhattan bits couldn't have been done much better. Rorschach is perfect.
The TV series doesn't excite me much but the trailers have been utterly meh. -

This will most likely be shit, however -

Registered 3 years agoAll the cartoonists say other media adaptations of their work will be shit because nobody dreams of being a cartoon writer, so they get upset that real writers for TV and movies pick their work apart (which is often flimsy) -

You are thinking of Lost Girls. Never read it though. I love Moore’s work generally but never got around to this one.

Sometimes I think the fact that the only time I watched the film was the Emirates Airlines censored version may have been a blessing. No blue penis or sex scenes that I recall...

I have thought about rewatching (including the longer version but never really got around to it).
I will give this a try though. -

I love the original comic, haven’t read any of the spin offs / sequels though. Loved the film at the time as well, very fond memories of that. Could be because I watched before I read.
I’m excited for this, definitely. -

Leftovers was absolutely great. First class writing from Lindelhof. I guess it really depends who's in the writers room with him to a degree. JJ Abrams may not have been the best influence.
