It might be a bit much to say this is the best bit of telly I've seen this decade, as it's still showing, and right at the end of the year too.

But... this may just be the best bit of telly I've seen this decade!

    Yeah agree.

@breakablepants The production budget on this will be SKY HIGH. It's a prestige HBO show in the same Sunday slot as GoT with loads of great design and CGI and costumes, I hate to gO AlL tRacKiNg, but the ratings haven't been good after episode 1. And that's not hugely surprising. The mythology you need to know going in is dense, loads will have dropped off quickly if they don't know any back story. So will HBO renew a show that the mainstream audience won't support? Maybe. In the new age of streaming ruling all, they could package this with the extended cut of the movie and build a new audience for the HBO streaming platform. I'd imagine season 2 might not need as big a budget.

This isn't a show that needs to go bigger every season to produce excellence.

It does indeed sound cheesy, but to me it also sounds more interesting than the Doc Man "I experience everything at once and can't change a thing" take.

It's a personal preference, I don't mean to that I found the latest episode bad or anything. I just don't find predeterministic time loops particularly interesting. It still has time to become a "I've seen all the permutations and this is my preferred one" story though.

I also really hope they won't rush a season 2.
    And Hooded Justice was white.

But he doesn't see all the possible permutations as time is one constant that he experiences at once.

    @breakablepants

It's nothing to do with budgets. Damon Lindelof has been quite clear in interviews that he only intended to do one series, but he was open to the idea of other creators pitching Watchmen series ideas after he was done, to create an anthology like show.

I don't really get why he let some things go down the way they did. I know he experiences all time all the time basically and can't change things because they already happened, but he surely still made decisions 'originally' and those decisions were sometimes terrible to the point of nonsensical.

I suppose that's part and parcel of being an immortal omnipotent being, it appears obtuse to us.

It's also possible that he's just not all that imaginative or creative.

That's obvious with the creation of his children.

Is Manhattan omnipotent? He is still fundamentally human that experiences all time that he is present in simultaneously. But does he have knowledge of what is occurring where he isnít there?

I'm pretty sure he's described as being omnipotent.

I am not doubting it, it has been a long time since I read the Watchmen. And I think in my tiredness and confusion I was thinking omniscient not omnipotent. I really need a good sleep.

I'm hoping they'll do something interesting with Doctor Manhattan, just as they did with Hooded Justice. One such thing could be to move away from the "time is a flat circle" spiel.

I won't be surprised if that doesn't happen. But they could explain stuff like "Oh fuck, I missed a guy and now he'll blow me to pieces even though I knew this would happen" by saying "I know it's better for all of us if the cavalry captures me"

I'm just really tired of the "Oh, he knew because she asked him how he knew but in a timeloop". The old "time traveller gauntlet trick" I believe they called it in Red Dwarf.

I guess "time as an infinitely branching delta" can be equally lazy though. It just feels more up to date.

Personally I think the idea of a giant-donged blue god experiencing all parts of his life simultaneously, and the problems this creates for his relationships with regular humans, is plenty interesting enough. But maybe that's just me.

Judging by the reviews for ep08 I think plenty of people find it interesting. I found the whole bar scene a bit icky. Doc Man goes PUA.

"Hey lady, let me insert myself in your life! I won't take no for an answer. Look at my fancy magic trick!"

Yeah, he shouldn't be blue but red. Red as the pill he's clearly swallowed.

    The fucking redpiller.

So final tonight. Hopefully they nail it.

    My theory....

Manhattan powers have already been transferred into their emotionless kid. Irons is what crashed from the sky when Asian lady bought the land with the baby and its trapped in the statue.
Asian ladies dad is the Comedian.

Just watched the final episode and it's a fitting conclusion for an excellent show.

Now my wait for the inevitable box set begins so I can see it!

Hopefully, it'll be available to stream on xbone etc sooner rather than later, although the boys definitely isn't as yet.

Great ending. I still think some of the writing in the previous episode was a bit awkward, but they went some way to justifying it here, and that aside this was top stuff.

Good finale to a great series. It felt a bit compacted compared to the rest of the episodes, it maybe could have done with 90 minutes, but other than that they very much stuck the landing.

    That was a real treat.

If youíre having withdrawal symptoms, the soundtrack is up on Spotify and itís, obviously, excellent. It really deserves a good listen on your best gear.

Yeah, fantastic show. This and The Boys are up there with the best shows I've ever seen.
