For those that have played, your thoughts so far?|
Got a bit overwhelmed on day 1 especially with all the skills etc as RPGs are not normally my thing. But day 2 I have finally got a grasp of it all and have a clear plan of what I want to achieve. The amount of possibilities is mind boggling so a few playthroughs required I think. This came out of nowhere for me and I can see why a few think itís game of the year material.
It looks brilliant but a bit text heavy for me nowadays.

It's fucking brilliant though.

I was all over it, but that EG review cooled my jets.
It's like Torment: Tides of Numenera, but with talking ties and missing a shoe.
This looks really good, the text itself (possibly even the font) reminds me of Torment (Planescape that is - haven't played tides)
Still not through day 2 yet and have so much I want and need to do. Loving the lack of combat and conversation mechanics. Anyone know of any similar games with minimal combat?

It's great, really ******* great! It's equal parts rpg and visual novel so don't come into it expecting much action.
I can't remember any game that has made me laugh as much as this has, the writing is outstanding and dialogue feels like it's straight out of a Monty Python sketch at times, especially the internal dialogue that you have with yourself.
If you like crpg's this is definitley worth a look, if you like Planescape Torment then this is an absolute must buy.
Is there a lot of combat in planescape? What about Tyranny?
There is combat in Torment, often (not sure if always) non-violent options as well.
Gonna grab this when it's on sale. Love the art style too.
Tyranny does give you the chance to try and talk your way out of situations. I can't remember if you can complete it without any combat or not though as I played a mix of fighting and talking. I enjoyed it though.
Been playing it all afternoon, into day 3.
Going a bit word blind now tho
I skipped a lot of text, turns out most of it is fluff and useless. Finished it in 16 hours.

Did you skip a lot of the songs in Rock Band too?
I don't play Rock Band. I can read fast and a lot of the text I was given was, as I said, fluff. I get it, it's old school gaming where everyone can speak like they're walking encyclopedias and dump a load of exposition.
The music is decent in this too. Really fiddles my funkhole
Just failed on my roll to sing karaoke
I think that will haunt me for a while
I couldn't handle failing that, especially when I had a high % on it so I gave myself a free scum on that one.
What a wierd fantastic story, I'm really glad there is still room in the world for bizarre shit like this
I've just started this!
It's made me laugh out loud twice within the first 3 or 4 screens

Wow, it's sad that this thread is less than a page long for one of the best games of last year, and one of the most interesting and ambitious RPGs ever.
Hope you enjoy it Tomo, sounds like you will.

It is a shame. I think most of the forum regulars are console players though so most PC-only games donít get a lot of traction in terms of forum discussion.
Itís definitely a game I urge anyone that can play it to do so.

It's been on my wishlist for ages now and I'll probably cave in and buy it, but knowing my luck it'll end up on the humble monthly sub that I keep forgetting to snooze.
Does look bloody good, but the kind of game you have to be in a certain mood for (and I'm normally in the blow shit up kind of mood)
Yeah, it's been on my wishlist for ages too. Tbh, I was waiting for them to release some more updates and I delayed buying it because of my huge backlog. But I caved last night because I was feeling sorry for myself, Cyberpunk has been delayed, and it's 30% off on Steam which is the lowest it has been.
I'm really impressed by the opening hour. I've deliberately chosen to be quite an unhinged player I think and it's resulted in some absolutely hilarious consequences. For instance, you can choose to whether you put on your clothes or not in the opening section. I decided to just go for shoes, a a jacket and my undies. Trousers are a bit restrictive after all. Initially there wasn't really any consequence to this, but then one NPC actually took notice and the dialogue was fucking ace
I've also never played Planescape, Baldur's Gate, Pillars (well did like 2 hours on this back in the day), etc. I'm sure I'll enjoy those, but the setting in this is absolutely perfect - so refreshing not to be playing as an elf or cyborg.
It really will be perfect for the Switch when it releases, assuming the UI is well-implemented and the text is readable. That said, the artwork is gorgeous in ultrawide on my PC too. I love the painterly style. Swings and roundabouts.
I am another with this on the wishlist but too much of a backlog to buy it yet. PC exclusives do tend to be under-represented here though, for example Beautiful Desolation which I really enjoyed gets almost no coverage anywhere (and I am pretty sure their previous game, Stasis actually got more noticed).
I will inevitably get this one day though.
