It's definitely a thing many people have said they've done, so which games have you bought for (at least) a second time on Switch, and how has that worked out for you?

I have mixed feelings. I've done it quite a bit, and although I've played more on Switch in some instances, it's rare that it's been genuinely worthwhile.

Skyrim - more time than I've ever spent on it on 360 or PS4, but haven't finished and all feels a bit aimless now. I still class it as a classic though.
Bayonetta & Bayonetta 2 - Original is on my all-time favourites list, but had it since launch and only put 5ish hours into it. Haven't even started 2. Original on 360, both on WiiU.
Rayman Legends - Love it, but haven't played anywhere near what I have on Vita (and didn't touch the PS4 version which I think I got on PS+. Also had on WiiU from a bundle, but sold without playing.
Witcher 3 - expected it to take over my life. Hasn't yet. Fell off the PS4 version.
Diablo 3 - had on 360, completed on PS4, put lots of time into Seasons on Switch. Lovely fit.
Overwatch - PS4 version definitely superior, but cheaper to buy the Switch version than to renew my PS+ ;-)
Minecraft - Minecraft innit. Got it on EVERYTHING.
Rocket League - I've hit 120 hours on the Switch version; my most played game by far
Disgaea 5 (also on PS4) - these games are far better suited to handheld. Much happier with it on Switch
LEGO City Undercover (WiiU), Dragon Quest Builders (Vita) - don't know why I bothered

Doom (2016), more of a curio really but fuck it I love Doom. I was pretty impressed with it but it is really more suited to the big screen.
Diablo 3 - ran through it with the Necromancer but probably won't again. It was a great fit for Switch though.
MK11 - Spent wayyyy more time with the Switch version and eventually fucked off the PS4 version in favour of it. Now waned off it massively but I have clocked up 160 hours so far.
Bayonettas - Had them on WiiU and never really bothered but finished them both on Switch.

Skyrim. Less than 10 hours on pc since release. Completed the main quest in 50 or so hours on Switch. Paid full price as well and don't regret it. There's no way I can complete RPG games on pc but it's doable in portable mode.

Binding of Isaac. Stupid hours on pc and stupid hours again on Switch. Well worth it, though I prefer playing docked.

Various fighting games. Hardly played on pc and gotten a bit more out of them on Switch. Fantasy Strike has been a good buy as it's so accessible and easy to learn.

I've played a decent amount of indie games and generally prefer them on Switch, even at higher prices, lower frame rates and all that. It's the difference between playing and not playing. The Switch is far from perfect but it's good enough that I don't mind.

The only games I'm happy to play on pc are those that really need a mouse and keyboard or a lot of cpu power (Paradox games etc).

@rice_sandwich BoI! That's another on my list actually. Barely touched on PS/Vita, eaten up the hours on Switch.

Firewatch. After selling the Xbox I missed the colours and ambience.

Same. Although I have some PC games (digital) twice e.g. On Steam + GOG, or Steam + EGS but that's not double dipping since they were free mostly.

On Switch specifically, Hyrule Warriors, MK8D and the Bayonettas.

Hyrule Warriors, I bought because, while I enjoyed what I played on the Wii U, I only managed to put about four or five hours in. Ended up at least finishing the main campaign route on Switch, and I will eventually go back and do some more.

Mario Kart? Well, it's Mario Kart, innit. But, it did remind me why I didn't play it much on Wii U - I find it a bit boring. On both versions, I played all the cups once, and then hardly touched it again. Can't be arsed with online, and I won't [ay for the sub anyway.

Bayonetta... technically the first game is a quadruple dip, oops (360, PC, Wii U, Switch). But it's Bayonetta, so NO RAGRETS.

I suppose I could also count Celeste. I got it on XBO through Games with Gold, and enjoyed the hour or so I played. Ended up buying it on Switch and finishing it.

A game I'm surprised I haven't rebought on Switch yet: FFX. I think that's the game I've rebought the most - PS2 (twice!), PS3, Vita, PS4 and XBO. Yikes.

    Long Dark

Mostly played on the Xbox, then transitioned to the PS4. Played many hours on each console

Recently bought it on PC but never really played.

One of my all time fave games

Just once so far, with Valkyria Chronicles which I'd already completed on my PS3. I've beaten the game twice on the Switch so I got my money's worth.

I'll be getting the Xenoblade Chronicles DE next year too. Can't bloody wait for some HD Reyn Time.

I've never bought a game on Switch that I've already owned on another platform. As a piece of hardware, the Switch is more something I tolerate than embrace (though some of its games, like Fire Emblem: Three Houses are great).

Where I've double-dipped before, it's generally been for the later PC release of games which have previously been out on consoles. So there, I've double-dipped on titles like GTA5, Monster Hunter World etc. I'm starting to just skip non-exclusive console-only releases on the grounds that they all seem to come to PC in the end anyway these days.

Mario Kart 8, because I had to.

Other than that, just Lego City Undercover which came bundled with my Wii U and I never played. Picked it up on Switch because it was very cheap and finally played through it. Now I have two versions of a shit game.

I'm confused as to why you tolerate something you bought with your own cash. Get rid then.

@JamboWayOh I like some of the games for it. I just think they'd all be a bit better on more powerful hardware.

    @Rogueywon

You're barking up the wrong tree wanting powerful hardware from Nintendo.

@JamboWayOh Not quite my point. My point was that I generally find the Switch hardware an impediment to enjoying games rather than a boon. Doesn't mean I expect Nintendo to do anything differently and doesn't mean I don't enjoy some Switch games. Just means I'd never double-dip by buying a game I already have on another platform for Switch.

That's fair... whereas for me, not being required to sit in front of a tv allows me to actually play the games means i am getting through and enjoying them alot more.

@Graxlar_v3 Fair enough, I know that for some people portability matters. For me, it doesn't have much value. My commute isn't really gaming-friendly (30 mins walking, 15-20 mins on a crowded train where it's 50/50 whether I get a seat). If I'm making a longer journey on work's time, I'll be working on my laptop while travelling. On the relatively rare occasions I do long journeys for leisure reasons, I may well take the Switch (and Vita), but those aren't frequent enough to justify double-dipping (and push me towards shorter, arcadier games anyway).

My most comfortable gaming room at home (by some measure) is the study, which is another factor that pushes me towards the PC. Playing console games on the sofa/TV is ok, but it does mean I need to wear my glasses. By and large, if I'm gaming on a weeknight, it's on the PC. Consoles get more of a look-in at the weekend, but even there I prefer the consoles whose output doesn't look hideous on a 4K TV.

Iím the exact opposite as Roguey. Iím least likely to play on the computer as its just not as comfy. I have been plugging it into the TV a bit, but itís not a permanent setup and the time Iíve spent playing like this is minimal. Much better is a console with the sofa and the blanket and the drink and the pad. I play a lot like that. My most favouritest thing though is a portable, I take those wherever I go, playing whenever I have the time, also a lot at home. Iím really pissed off at Sony that they killed the Vita so quickly. Still, I have plenty of games still on it and on the 3DS as well. The Switch is likely to take over my gaming once Iím done with those two.
