You can tell who all the wealthy EG users are by seeing who is able to play half life:Alyx. :). Enjoy it, I'm very jealous.

Hopefully it comes to whatever VR solutions the next gen consoles come up with. It doesn't need a mega expensive controller which tracks the positions of individual fingers (though the Index controllers are very comfortable for extended use as you can stretch your hands out), but the graphics are definitely high end. The lighting and fog in particular are very advanced but also efficient - it looks better than any of the Oculus games while running at a higher framerate and resolution.

edit: Also I'm sure I'd be well up for playing it through again on a PSVR2 or whatever with better tracking, just after going through Blood and Truth again.

I'm on a 2080, and I'm reasonably happy at 90Hz on High. I reckon with a 2080Ti you'll be good at 120 on High. It looks fantastic - a real step above other VR games.

Yeah, keep it for tomorrow. Last thing you want is for it to catch you wrong when you are tired.

So I went for it anyway, as I've waited so long.

Turns out it was exactly the best time to try it. Fucking hell. It's absolutely amazing. The hand controls? What the fuck? It's too real. Amazing.

I can't seem to find the smooth turn so I'm flicking the look which I'd rather have to turn smoothly, but fucking hell, even opening a door is amazing!

    Jesus.

Thereís no smooth turn, you can change degrees and thatís it.

That's cool - because I got used to it, and like you say, your body moves as wel..

Jesus, the ducking section in the vents. Absolutely amazing. How the hell do valve pull this off? It's stunning.

Time and passion, they pretty much operate like Nintendo do, just a lot less prolific.

Checked out some twitch streams, seems a lot of people are using the control stick to move, which is my preferred mother but itís shit with vive wands

Need much room to enjoy this properly?
  • Deleted user 24 March 2020 06:55:06
It's a very cool experience so far, but far darker than I thought it would be. Extremely beautiful. Not sure how far you all are but there is a very inappropriate "joke" regarding Italians, the plague and quarantine. Don't get me wrong, I realise it was written long before all this happened but I ended up turning off the game and heading to bed after that bit.

Even so, it's clear that VR is an experimental medium still. Some of the controls and mechanics still feel unintuitive (jumps, ladders), I was a little surprised at how rough some of that stuff is.

I'm not getting this at all, zero problems using the track pad. Horses for courses I guess.

There is a level called Quarantine Zone, I assumed it was just a coincidence. I haven't actually played it though.

I tried to watch a bit of a stream of this earlier, but had to stop as the way turning jumped around in steps was giving me a headache. Fuck knows what it's like actually doing it with a cyber wizard helmet on.

The quick turn? It's fine when you're controlling it. It's actually smooth turning transitions which are more likely to cause motion sickness in people.

It is just a coincidence, but it still hits pretty hard when they are talking about it and it definitely took me out of the moment.
