Cheers I've gone with the same, if I stop using the ssd in the future can always throw it into my laptop in place of the current 2nd mechanical storage drive
Actually swapped to the MX500 as DF had specifically called out the SanDisk drive as kind of crap in a previous article.
I went for that one as well.

Hereís the link for Crucial MX 500, £79.99 for a couple more hours. But you need a USB 3.1 to SATA cable as well.

Any reason to not go for the slightly cheaper bx500? DF suggests ideal for game storage.

    https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Crucial-MX500-250GB-vs-Crucial-BX500-240GB/3951vsm578496

Looks like the MX is significantly quicker in various scenarios - probably worth the slight extra cost

Yes, but I thought not for the purposes as an external drive for series x.

DF's report found pretty much every SSD solution comparable for backwards compatible games. If you use it for that purpose exclusively while using the internal for next gen games, you should be fine.

Prolonged speed higher. Copying games will be prolonged .. sounds worth it. Whole reason youíre getting an SSD is speed?

Yes but they were using high quality SSDs in most tests. I imagine the difference will not be massive either way but the fact that they specifically called out the Sandisk as not great and not sustaining read and write speeds means it won't be as good as the ones they used in some of their testing.

I need a new TV and it's perfect timing really with the new Xbox around the corner. :) I have a couple of AV setup questions:

    1) The XSX supports HDR and Dolby Vision for games and movies, but not HDR10+, right? (which would mean a Sammie is out, my previous go-to).

    2) Am I right in thinking that if I pass the XSX through an Atmos surround system into the TV, then it doesn't matter whether or not the TV itself supports Atmos?

The answer to both of your questions is yes.

However the answer to question 2 is a qualified yes. Have you considered that if you're getting a new TV you'll probably want HDMI 2.1 or at least a number of the features which some older sets are compatible with. As such passing through a receiver will lose a lot of those new benefits unless you get a brand new receiver too.

Yeah good point. Will need to make sure the Atmos kit is up to snuff as well.

I intend to get as good a TV as I can within my budget - HDMI 2.1, low input lag, QLED, Dolby Vision, etc. Just good to know that Atmos is one thing I don't absolutely need to have within the TV itself.

Has there been any indication how "Reserved Space" for XB1 games will work on Series S/X ?

RDR2 & GTAV reserve 18gb each on the internal hard drive even if installed on an external drive; many of the larger games take hefty chunks from the internal drive although these 2 games seem to be the worst

Using a Series S (or X) this will take a significant amount of space off what is available - you could conceivably (although very unlikely) take up all the internal storage on a Series S if you have enough XB1 games stored externally

Annoying that Destiny 2 won't be spruced up on launch (coming in December), as that'll be prime time for me playing it.

Does anyone have recommendations for hdmi 2.1 cables? My AV receiver and TV are compatible, just need a second cable. There's loads of cheap ones on Amazon but I don't really trust reviews on there.

Looks like I'll be playing Forza Horizon 4 on the Series S, would be nice to have a bit more detail on the optimisations though. Will it be 1080p 60fps like One X or can we expect a bit more?

@Switch-v85 I think at least 1080p60 is a given. Maybe more, if we are lucky, but I wouldn't count on it.

MS did say that the S is essentially "more than twice as powerful" as the standard Xbox One, but when you double the framerate and maybe go from 900p to 1080p, that's probably all you can do. Destiny 2 is also confirmed to be 1080p60 on the S.

Yeah to be fair I expect most games will end up targeting 1080p but it'd be nice if Microsoft manage to hit that 1440p target for optimised Xbox One games.

If the TV has HDMI 2.1 it will most likely have Atmos decoder support and eARC so it won't really matter if you go direct to TV or Amp.

Saw a video showing the loading times in Gears 5 with the X optimized patch.

    https://twitter.com/Stallion83/status/1316725718332649473?s=20

Loads in 8 seconds. Impressive compared to the old consoles, but my computer with a SATA SSD - and a cheap Kingston at that - loads the same chapter in 11-12 seconds, so I'm not seeing that much of an advantage for a PCIE 4.0 NVMe.

Granted it's still just an optimized Xbox One game, so maybe it doesn't take full advantage of the Velocity architecture, but still.
