It’d be extremely bad optics if one of their “next gen” consoles was too last gen to be supported in a few years. I’m guessing they’ll insist on devs supporting it.

Not bothered about the power personally- the S is a bedroom console and will be used with a decent enough 1080 TV. I reckon, as it beds in with developers that’ll be consistently achievable.

Worst case, MS buys every single big publisher out there so they have no choice but to make Xbox games.

Jokes aside, I'm not bothered by the power either (otherwise I wouldn't have bought it), but I do think the lack of disc drive might hurt its chances. For the price, given that it's supposed to replace the One S, it should have had it. Or at least drop down to $249.

In fairness, I was half right. They run the two engines side by side:

I must’ve been conflating the Halo remasters with this in my mind for some reason.

The S conversation is a bit pointless, its the same as saying PC games in two years wont work with mid range graphics cards from today. But in a few years a 2020 graphics card will struggle, however the PC game will still physically run it just not as well as a 2023 graphcs card.

@Sharz That’s not a bad analogy, I reckon. The S will perform like the equivalent PC but with a slightly less powerful graphics card. Yeah, I’ll have that.

Can anyone clear this up? Seen comments on another forum saying only the official external SSD will work with Series X games? All others will only work with bc and xbox one games or won't make use of the Series X upgrades?

I think that only official slot in ssd's will work with series X games and any old usb drive will work with old bc and one games. That's what I understand.

@Baihu1983 Only the Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S

Whats the shorthand name for it?

@mothercruncher don't underestimate the cuteness. And the tininess.

I'll be putting it somewhere and then forget it exists, while everybody else will have to buy a new TV cabinet to make space for the PS5 or Series X.

Yep. No one factors in the extra cost of a whole new entertainment centre, and probably reenforcing their lounge floor for the Series X/PS4. We’re LAUGHING.

Sorry guys, completely random question, and I'm only posting it here because this morning the Xbox and the Xbox 360 forum sections didn't seem to be working.

Has there ever been any official comment on whether or not The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (Xbox) or The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (Xbox 360) could ever be made backwards compatible going forward?

Would love to play it again, as it's one of the classics from the Xbox era that often gets forgotten about sadly.

@TechnoHippy Oh absolutely, that would be amazing. Don't know where that would stand though with rights etc and Starbreeze being where they are now. There is supposedly a fourth movie in the works though so who knows.

@Paulanator Vin Diesel is a big gamer too - I parked in his parking spot once when at Universal :-)

I also got to work with one of the writers on Riddick games.

@TechnoHippy Nice. Yeah, I did read about Diesal being into his games and Dungeons and Dragons etc. Does Tigon studios still even exist these days?

Where the hell are the series S impressions ? Are they purposely putting an embargo on them so that people just get the X?

They're obviously pushing the X impressions because the enthusiasts always buy first plus it's their flagship console which is the most expensive, obviously you'd push that which promotes the idea of next gen the most. The S is something they see with a long tail of sales.

@Paulanator I don't think so, their website doesn't appear to be active anymore.
