The premium model, yes, but what for those of us who can only afford the Cell version?

Looks like my One X is properly broken 😱

It won't boot up and won't hard reset / factory reset, it does the power light and startup sound, tries to spin up three times, then turns itself off. I'm going to try a USB factory reset later but I'm not holding my breath.

Gutted, I only got it May 2018 so it's not long outside warranty. Quite a few others on various forums saying the same thing too - started frequently crashing, then stopped launching and wouldn't respond to manual factory reset (where you hold the sync and eject buttons while powering up).

If it really is screwed I need to decide whether to wait for next gen and make do with the Switch, get a 2nd hand one (still about £250 though and might break again), or go back to a dirty One S...

If you get a new one, itíll still be under warranty when next gen arrives so hopefully able to get a decent price for it.
All depends on what you want to play over the next 9 months or so and how much spare cash you have.

    @hedben2013

Not sure if you're aware, but depending where you got it, you should still have a good chance of a refund. Sale of Goods Act (I think) says products should last a reasonable time - most retailers usually accept something around £200 should last a couple of years at least.

@IRWATWO good shout, can't quite remember but I think it was Amazon so I'll dig out the details and see what they say.

On managing without it, I was fuming this morning when I remembered I'd lost my 28 day streak on RDR daily challenges do I doubt I'll last 9 months!

Consumer Rights Act now, probably worth checking somewhere like Which? or Money Saving Expert for advice.

Assuming you are in UK, you have a 2 year guarantee, so are still within that period...

(Notwithstanding there is actually a longer 6 year period, but this is less well known and harder to argue, especially with consumer electronics imo).

Yep still covered despite what they might try and tell you. Speak to MS who might even fix it for free like they did my Scorpio last year

@Technoishmatt I plugged my serial number into the MS website yesterday while troubleshooting and it said out of warranty- but yeah thanks, I won't give up on getting it fixed, refunded or replaced just yet

FML, why did I have to buy the One X from "AO on eBay"

(I know exactly why, it's because various eBay vouchers and discounts made it £359 rather than £449 but I bet I'll have fun pinning down who can sort it out for me)

Mine was also listed as that but they did it free. Think the website is tied to US laws which don't seem to have as long a warranty

Yeah don't faff with who it might be, just contact MS first. They're by far the best in terms of customer service/support/satisfaction.

I didn't use the new controller that cam with my X for just over a year afterwards, when I did it kept dropping connection. I checked the site and it said it was out of warranty, but contacted them over chat and they replaced it.

They were really good, so give them a try.

Xbox support are telling me right now it's out of warranty and I have to pay for a repair

Maybe I need to ring back and try a different person!

...and now they're telling me it's £199.93 for the repair, and sending me to xbox.com/devices to register it. Which goes to a 404.

They aren't exactly showering themselves in glory here

After spending about an hour on the phone yesterday and speaking to 2 people at Microsoft and 2 people at AO...

...I've given up and sent my One X in for a paid repair by CeX. It's going to cost 93 quid but no-one I spoke to was budging an inch. I mentioned EU directives, 2 year warranty period outside the US, consumer rights act 2015- none of it made a difference. (On the consumer rights act apparently I could have got a recognised trader to open it up and if they determined it had a fault *when it was sold* that led to it failing 18 months later I'd have got a partial refund. But sod that.)

Anyway maybe I could have spent more time on it, escalated/written in/whatever, or maybe watched a YouTube tutorial and opened it up to check it myself- but spending less than £100 and getting it done by a professional (and guaranteed for 2 years afterwards) seemed like the least worst option.

It can take 2-3 weeks though, so I'll be getting a lot of practice on the Switch in the meantime...

I mean, I guess if you round it off, and remove the disc drive, take away the controller...

The ability to have Slay The Spire running permanently in the backgroundon the Series X is generation defining feature imo. It's never not there in a instant.

Keeping a couple of "quick blast" rogueish or arcade games in virtual memory will be brilliant.

Unlikely to be running in the background, no? It'll just be dumping the RAM to the SSD - it's just paging, surely? That'll soak up a bunch of the storage space for starters. :)

I wonder if they'll start getting devs to do quick-resume like mobile titles do - take you back to exactly where you left off without sitting through 45 seconds of logos first.

That said, it would require someone to actually give a fuck about the base OS on these things. The absolute state of the XBOX OS since late in the 360 generation... I do wonder what the fuck is in their heads a lot of the time. Go back to the blades, you fuckers!

I'm sure it'll be lovely having all them flops to play with but I may go ps5 next gen. I was xbox this gen but feel I missed out on a shit load of sony exclusives (can't be arsed listing them but theres alot)
I'm still waiting for xbox to announce some exclusives of there own that might sway me but it's not happened yet.

It's all very well saying you have POWER but where's the innovation in game design? Are we just going to see more online service games? There hasn't been a true leap in innovation for a long time. We've had drips here and there. Come on game designers pull your finger out and stop making pretty games and make something that is truly different.

Innovation sake for innovation sake gave us Kinect so careful what you wish for.

I think innovation should be more on the software side and more power allows more freedom in game design..
