Is there an inherent advantage to having 2 memory pools? I'd think it just adds unnecessary complexity when it comes to memory allocation. Then gain, I'm an actual idiot.

I imagine that memory allocation is automatic. This isn't gonna be like the ESRAM framebuffer on the Xbox One.

But I still don't see why they'd do something like that, especially because it's not a GTX 970 configuration where the last 512MBs were super slow. We're talking about pretty fast memory even for the secondary pool.

I dunno, there are many ways to save on costs. This is probably one of them.

I found it interesting watching the DF reveal the other day when they made an odd mention of 'this is not boosted, it's always at this clock speed'.

Reading about the PS4 and they mention intelligent boosting/throttling based on workload and it suddenly made more sense.

Rumors are now swirling around that there's gonna be another Xbox event in May, with game announcements and whatnot, and also a Lockhart reveal.

Makes sense with no E3 but how will they replace the “Whoop! Whoop!” crowd?

If Lockhart turns out to be the full-on new console, all singing, all dancing, but for folk who only have a normal HD TV, I'm going to be very excited about hearing how cheap it is. :D

Yeah. I was thinking that. Showcase and then the ShopTo or whatever email. Is it too soon to reveal pricing etc?

They won't reveal pricing yet. They're waiting for Sony to blink.

Whilst I am not going to be a day one purchaser of the PS5 or XBX, I am looking forward to seeing some gameplay. But as Microsoft have bigged up the controller I would be excited if there are some in store consoles to get a, no pun intended, hands on experience.

We'll get Assassins Creed: Valhalla, that one they showed with the wild woman (I forget what it's called) and the new Halo. I'm sure Rare will show off something, even it it's Sea of Thieves looking rather amazing.

I'm hoping for a new Tomb Raider game. They are usually graphical showcases and I have really enjoyed the new iterations.

New Forza and Gears? What the system needs is lots and lots of new ips. Compared to Sony they are laughable. But fuck it. I'll take Halo and a few others.

Yeah, be honest Beast reading your post and just seeing
Gears, Halo, Assassins creed, Forza etc as the main draws for the next xbox just depressing as fuck. And I say that as an xbox owner.

I really hope they start pushing some new ip's soon.

We can only get (afford) one console at launch, currently trying to convince eldest son we should move from PS4 to Series X due to UNLIMITED POWAH but like others have mentioned, Sony have the IP's and any new IP from their first party devs always seem to be of a good standard.

    Tough call.

Haven't they said that the thing next week is for "partner" games. i.e. you're not gonna be seeing any first party franchises until the summer. Which makes sense.

I don't mind refreshes of existing franchises, but hopefully their spree of acquisitions will yield a lot more original stuff. Even if it's "only" AA fare that'd be fine with me. Big budget, cinematic, bombastic, game making isn't the big draw for me any more. Give me a tidy little idea presented in an interesting way all day long.

Yeah, next week is third party stuff, then there'll be a first party event later on (they say there'll be more news on that too next week).

Also, Xbox have announced four new IPs in the last year (EDIT: actually, five), so there's no reason to think they'll stop there. Granted, a couple of them are smaller games, but the new teams will take time to ramp up. Obsidian and InXile are both supposed to be working on big new RPGs, and it looks like Double Fine's next game will be quite big in scale (they recently brought a senior game designer in from Naughty Dog to work on a AAA project).

The Initiative and Playground's second studio are also supposedly rebooting Perfect Dark and Fable, respectively, so there'll be new stuff, old stuff, and rebooted stuff coming from Xbox in the next few years.

First party showcase confirmed for July.

As we know, May (this Thurs) will have the 3rd party showcase, and there's going to be something in June as well - Lockhart reveal, maybe?

Key points for the months ahead:

-Our goal remains to launch Xbox Series X and Halo Infinite this Holiday

-All 15 Xbox Game Studios teams are hard at work on next-generation games for
Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass

-The best development teams around the world are working hard to have their
games ready to play on Xbox Series X this holiday

-For PC players, we plan to support the community by making all our major
releases at launch available with Xbox Game Pass for PC, including Halo
Infinite, Wasteland 3, Minecraft Dungeons and of course, Microsoft Flight
    Simulator.

-We have new updates and titles lined up for Xbox Game Pass for console and PC
We’re expanding Project xCloud into new countries and on new devices—and
later this year Project xCloud and Xbox Game Pass will come together,
enabling you and your friends to play together in more ways.

    May:

For the Xbox 20/20 May update, we will focus on giving you a first look at next-gen gameplay, trailers and sneak peeks from a wide variety of publishing partners and independent developers across the globe and industry, including Ubisoft’s recently announced Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and hear from game creators about what they’re doing with their games on Xbox Series X.

We’ll be confirming games that utilize our new Smart Delivery feature, which ensures that you always play the best version of the games you own for your console, across generations. And all the games you’ll see will be Xbox Series X Optimized, meaning they are built to take advantage of the powerful Xbox Series X features that make games look and feel incredible, including 4K resolution at up to 120 frames per second, DirectStorage, hardware-accelerated DirectX raytracing, super-fast load times and much more.
    July:

In July, we will dedicate time to focus on the incredible games coming from Xbox Game Studios. A number of our studio teams are looking forward to sharing first looks at new gameplay, insights from development teams being optimized for Xbox Series X, and brand-new game announcements. We cannot wait to share this initial look at what some of those teams are working on.
