It depends on the games. For something with a series S/X optimisation patch it downloads the entire game again so you might as well just start fresh with those. For anything that hadn't had a patch then yeah, just plug in the external and away you go. For anything with a One X enhanced patch like Red Dead 2 it'll download the patch for that if you're coming from a regular one to a SX, and saves downloading the whole thing again.

I'd say just plug the external in and check for updates and let it sort itself out overnight.

    I don't think Forza 7 has. Horizon 4 has.

As a heads up, there's a 500 points reward in the app for clicking two links related to FIFA. Wnen it says "play FIFA", just click on the button and that will be enough.
    Ta for this.

My appreciation for Quick Resume is growing quite a bit. Initially I was like "Yeah, this is a nice to have feature". Now that I have a PS5, it's so annoyingly jarring having to load a game every time I want to play it.

Agreed - I've had a PS5 a month and even though I'm only playing one game on it it's a pain loading it up each time I power the console off.

I didn't realise the wireless headphones switch on the console. WOW the future.

But they don’t turn on my controller. The future sucks.

The most annoying thing is that you can't really use them with anything else unless you're happy to have your Xbox on at the same time. I learnt this the hard way with the Arctis 9X, and I'm now looking to buy another headset for the PS5 (when ideally, I'd have liked a headset that worked with both, but not with a dongle I have to swap round every time, and I don't think any wireless headset exists that would satisfy that need)

@Wayne I have noticed that if you turn on the Xbox, link your headset via bluetooth to another device, then use the digital voice assistant to turn off your Xbox (don't turn your Xbox off normally, as that also turns off the headset. Example "OK Google, turn off the Xbox"), that keeps the headset on and connected to the other device.

    Might be helpful.

Picked up a wireless mouse + keyboard on Amazon (£50 down to £30) and queued up Football Manager Xbox Edition on the Series X.

Mouse + Keyboard connected seamlessly and the game runs really well on the SX. Briefly tried it with the controller and it was an absolute shit show, so very happy with the M+K purchase.

Now all I have to do is get Boston United out of the Vanarama North league....

Does the Series X automatically download the series X patch for a game when you download the game?

I downloaded FH4 and while it looks nice enough I wasn't particularly amazed by it.

Elite Dangerous on the other hand....phrrrrrow!

It should be looking a smidge better, but nailing 4K60fps. So, depending on where you played it last, it'll be transformative or much the same. The loading is the game changer; it used to be a real pain to fire up, but now (especially with Quick Resume) it's plenty rapid.

It looked much nicer than on my orginal xbox one but I was expecting more. Maybe I was expecting too much.

The loading time was a game changer. Instead of waiting minutes it was seconds!

Playing Forza Horizon 4 on Series X after having played it on Xbox One X, the biggest difference I noticed, as ridiculous as it sounds, were the shadows generated by cars that are caught in the headlights of your car. A subtle change, but I noticed it immediately. Dynamic shadows are insane. Not worth £450, sure. But impressive. And the difference in loading speed is insane!!!

Yeah, I reckon so. It was very much a little spit and shine, not a remaster. There are a bunch of changes in there but, as said above, they're quite subtle.

It'll be interesting to see what the proper next gen racers look like. In 2025 or whenever the fuck they bother to release them. :)

Smart Delivery, Quick Resume, silky 60fps, and insane loading speeds are the true Next Gen for me.

Hope someone can help, been playing Fortnite on the Series X but it’s keeps crashing for me. I’ve had to play it on my old One X which is soon being given to my son, can I download the standard Xbox One version of Fortnite and play it from my external SSD or would I have to transfer the One X version from the external HDD to the Series X external SSD ?

    Cheers.

    @Kernowgaz I don't think so:

Update 18/11/2020: Microsoft has followed up with a statement, confirming that the decision to force Smart Delivery games to upgrade is indeed purposeful. So you’re locked out of playing your Xbox One version of any game with Smart Delivery. RIP your internal SSD space.

“Titles that support Smart Delivery will automatically detect what device you are playing on – Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X or Xbox One – and deliver the best version of the game available to you. We believe delivering the version of a game that has been specifically optimized and tailored to your device is the best user experience, which is why Smart Delivery was developed this way. For additional information on managing upgrades with Smart Delivery, please go to Xbox Support.”

Looking forward to the Emmet invasion this weekend?

Cheers, looks like I can’t do it, just tried connecting the external from the One X to the Series X and it tells me to update to the new version :-(

I've currently got an ordinary passport drive plugged into my Series X. If I replace it with a USB SSD, will I see a noticeable improvement in load times? I'm probably going to get a proper official expansion drive at some point, just wondering if an SSD was worth it in the meantime.
