Not sure why he can't wait to much more stable times. I guess he just wants the prestige of being the film that welcomed us back to the cinema?

I heard he's negotiated himself 20% of the box office straight up - doesn't have to wait until it makes a profit - and some people were theorising he just wants all that lovely money that will roll in when it's the first film that opens after cinemas reopen. But that doesn't make much sense to me, cinemas are going to be running at about 1/4 capacity, surely?
Theyíll Just put the film on a lot more screens. Nothing else will be out there apart from Mullan but not sure when thatís opening.
    Yeah true.

Eurgh. Why the hell does he have the arrogance to think that he can drop this in the middle of a pandemic when most cinemas will be closed and act like everything is normal?

It won't be released unless 80% of cinemas worldwide are open again.

He doesn't. It can't be released until 80% of the entire world's cinemas are open again. What he WANTS is to make it the first film that opens when the cinemas open, because the cinemas will strip it across every single screen, and he'll make an absolute fucking fortune as he's getting 20% of the takings. Straight up, no waiting for profits first.

So, it's not arrogance. It's pure simple greed. Or, sure, he just wants his art to be seen, whatever. But what he wants, what he really really wants, is the money.

I can honestly say with no bullshit. If I was in his shoes I'd do the same. All while cackling like a maniac at how much money I'd be making.

    Of course. Hashtag me too.

I reckon the film will be incredibly entertaining but ultimately just another popcorn flick and not as impressive under the surface as it thinks it is, just like Inception.

I hate, hate, hate that kind of joke they do at the end. Every single dude bro film have them. That and the "I'm right here, I can here every word"

For better or worse, heís definitely one director who could and should insist their movies are better seen at the cinema, so itís not entirely unfair.

Bambot is really quite angry about Christopher Nolan wanting you make a lot of money from this film whilst also having his fans enjoy them at the cinema (where it would definitely be a better experience to see it). There are probably more worthy places to point ones anger I would suggest.

The movie has a budget of around 200 million

I can see why they want a cinematic release

If it went digital it allows easy piracy and then goodbye profit margins

Whereas a few movies released digital quick such as the invisible man, but that was like a 7 million movie so less risk there

It did have a short cinema run anyway

Having a Nolan movie waiting whenever Iím allowed back to the cinema ainít the worst thing Iíve ever heard

Nolan didn't blow up an airport/plane for a digital release

Is anyone else not watching the trailer/reading anything about this? I appreciate venturing into this topic was risky, but this feels like a movie that will work really well with no idea what it's about.

Really, I'm just trying to re-capture the absolute magic of a) Parasite with zero knowledge, and b) Us with zero knowledge, as I feel this could up there. OT, but the driveway scene in Us (which I subsequently noted was in the trailer) was absolutely mind blowing seen for the first time within the context of watching the actual movie, and not a trailer on my phone.

Even after seeing the second trailer I'm still no closer to having any kind of idea of what is happening.

I don't particularly care for Nolan's movies (they're not bad, I just don't like them that much), but generally agree that they're probably best viewed at the cinema. If this gets more people to go to the cinema post-lockdown, then I approve!

Iíd much rather see a movie blind if I have an idea itís gonna be half decent anyway. Trailers give way too much away. I normally remember all the scenes from them which means Iím waiting to see them, and it ruins suspense if a character seems to have died/disappeared etc. I know theyíll be back .. stay confused!

It's obviously about a guy who can make time flow backwards so that he can renegotiate his points in the gross/deferred salary and change it to payment up front.

The trailer looked very Inception-ey. Lots of grey and brown, anti-gravity hijinks, all very serious.

    No BWAAAAAAAAAA though.

The trailer literally starts with that style of sound. Noland has it written in his contract that all his films have to have one.
