I thought we could have a thread to post news about our impending doom.

Australia is probably going to uninhabitable in our lifetime, BBC summarises the recent heatwave and bushfires there:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-australia-50862584/australian-bushfire-anger-explained

Themperatures across Australia have been north of 40c for days but it looks like they'll get a reprieve over the next week with temperature dropping down to the mid-20's.

How are they so chill that their PM has gone to Hawaii for the winter while the country burns down?

I think there should be more legislation globally to force manufacturers to be accountable regarding repair and reuse. Manufacturers shouldn't be able to sandwich their shit in glue then wash their hands of the situation when the battery eventually needs to be replaced out of warranty and requires a crazy amount of labour to do so.

He said people need to essentially cut him slack because it was a holiday for his daughters, so obviously fuck everyone else who lost their lives, home, etc. Also Australia doesn't need to do any more to reduce emissions. He's a fucking cunt.

I'd like to counter the pessimism with this jpg of 16 bad things decreasing.

It was strange watching Sydney's fireworks display through a fog of fire smoke.

I think they should have cancelled it myself.

Hey, it brings in $30m dollars to the local economy. Can't be going cancelling it just because the country's on fire!

$30m could build a lot of tents in the internal refugee camps they're going to need

Could have used them to fight the fire instead, to coin a phrase.

It's a fairly big deal now. Over a thousand homes lost, and even cities that are far away are getting polluted from all the smoke.

I wouldn't say that the place will become "uninhabitable" any time soon, but this has been the worst bushfire season in a good while.

Here in Wellington the skies have been grey with smoke for the last two days.

It's pretty scary, although I must admit the sunset did look cool last night - deep red and hazy.

I wonder what it will take for the PM to accept that maybe he was wrong about climate change.

So if Australia is The Road, does that make Indonesia Waterworld?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-50969418

Apparently it's just down to poor flood defence infrastructure, according to their president- nothing to do with the record-breaking rainfall reported by his meteorological agency.

The end of the world no doubt, but even then he'll probably say it was God's plan.

We would have had a workable ETS for years now if Kevin Rudd hadn't lost his nerve.

Iím probably going to open a can of worms here, but either way we are going to have to learn to live with rising temperatures and sea levels, even if we cut emissions.

We've survived ice ages with no technology at all, we're probably going to survive this too.
