New thread for the 2020 challenge. :)

Finished my exams this year and managed to smash a load of games in 2019, 32 in total so a way off 52, but a lot of them were massive games and hours wise one of my most productive years games wise.

Hoping this year I should have even more time.

    Good luck :)

Not giving my total yet but will somewhere just under 35 I reckon depending if 8 get the last few games finished off or not.

Might start next year with my Rock Man collections (Mega Man) which is 19 games, 25 if I get the Zero/ZX one too ;)
I imagine some of them will be a lot longer for my tired old reflexes than I would hope though...

    And we're off!

    #1 - 02/01 - Resident Evil 2 (PS4)

Completed Leon A and Claire B so I'm done, what a fucking game, can't believe I waited so long to play it.

Now to resume Trails of Cold Steel 3 (about 26 hours in) and think I'll start Borderlands 3 as well, bosh!

We have two threads... Not completed anything yet but a merging is in order ;)

Although this one does have the first actual entry in it.

I considered completing Cthulhu Saves Christmas last night but stopped halfway.

    @One_Vurfed_Gwrx

    From MY thread:

    Morning Ratfans

You all know the drill by now. Share your games played/completed/abandoned on this here thread.

I managed 19 last year, which looking back over several years is about usual for me.

For what it's worth my list will only contain games what I have done beaten ;)
And if episodic, I will only count as one. Don't want to get bogged down in that whole gay nest of vipers on whether each 1 should count as an individual game...

    So "let's me having you"

    Oh Yeah.

However I do believe the author of this thread is actually custodian of the title, and posted before mine own (I just didn't see it) so we should post in this one

@Humperfunk, I doff my cap mate

Completed my first game of 2020

    1. Will A Wonderful World (7.5/10)

An interesting if surprisingly dark puzzle based spin on the visual novel. There was a bit too much trial and error for my liking, particularly around the latter stages but it kept me coming back to learn more about the characters. A good fit for the Switch as there's no way I'd sit down in front of a big screen to read so much text.

    And so it begins.

    01. Cthulhu Saves Christmas (PC) - 6/10

Great humor as always, and the idea of enforcing a randomized abilities panel makes for some interesting on-the-fly planning. But the game is plagued by unbalanced difficulty. Random battles are either press x to win (on easy) or way too long and difficult (on normal). And later battles are too long even on easy. Dungeons are also completely uninteresting outside of boss encounters, since all events and dialogue take place in the city hub.

Took me a good 8 hours, but it would have been a lot less without all the random battles padding.

    1. Pikuniku

Very gentle puzzle platformer to kick the year off. Quite funny in places and I enjoyed the soundtrack. Otherwise, not much to write home about - extremely short (increasingly a good thing for me these days) but actually I felt I'd got everything I was going to out of it before the credits rolled.

    1) Horace (PC) - 7.5

Could have been amazing, but let down by the insane difficulty.

Failing this tactically already. Played half of Cthulhu Saves Xmas one day, get distracted and start playing Phoenix Point properly... Then why not, let's start playing Mass Effect 2 finally... Isn't it about time I finally played through Trails in the Sky SC? Yeah, got my Linx Vision fixed up with latest Windows so let's get addicted to that one too... (and it isn't going to be a short one). And Quake II RTX has the cutscene working now so an excuse to go through that too... On the plus side I have been going through more Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram chapters so that one is progress at least... This is why I fail these challenges ;)

I will get to 1... Expected Cthulhu to be the first on Jan 2nd...

    1. Cthulhu Saves Christmas (PC) (11/1/20) (7.5/10) (100% STEAM trophies)

And finally finished my first game of the year. Got this free in a giveaway on another website which was a nice Xmas pressie fittingly. Took me about 11 hours (longer than Malek86 but I may have left screen on a little unattended).

To my shame I own the other 3 Zeboyd games but haven't played them properly so this is my first playthrough. I liked the art style and the silly humour worked surprisingly well for me. As Malek86 points out most of Th plot is between dungeons and it works quite well and the fights can be a bit long later on. Finished it on normal with no game overs (occasionally lost one character in a fight but you get all health back after every fight). This is mitigated by each dungeon having between 10 and 20 fights before you stop getting random encounters at all (you can optionally select a battle at any time). The aesthetic is aiming or SNES and the art is pretty nice with the music being appropriately Christmas's. Battle system works pretty well with the combination of foxed and random abilities.

The length of the game was just enough for it to not outlast its welcome.

Now to move on and get something else finished (as explained in my previous post I haven't focused well so far and started a long jrpg...)

Such a charming, fun game. 95+ hours played, but I breezed through it. Highly recommended! 9/10

    1) Dragon Quest XI (Nintendo Switch)
    12/01/20

Epic game is all I can say. Loved all of it.

    #1 04/01 Gris (Switch)
    #2 The Outer Worlds (PS4)

That was alright as a sort of Fallout-lite. Combat was appalling, but at least the game allowed you to talk your way out of most of it.

    #1 04/01 Gris (Switch)
    #2 12/01 The Outer Worlds (PS4)
    #3 18/01 Hob (Switch)

Pleasant enough game, although the level layout gets confusing and awkward sometimes.

    1) Story of Seasons Trio of Towns 3DS 12/01/20

    2) Story of Seasons Trio of Towns Miracle Worker NG+ 19/01/20

Hey, I enjoyed it so much I decided to start a new save file as a miracle worker (this time as a male farmer) and play it all over again!

I knew how to organise things better second time around and managed to beat Mr D by my first winter. Such a charming, relaxing bedtime game. I'd keep playing but I have Phoenix Wright to deal with.

    @ghearoid

I'd even go as far as to say that Trio of Towns is a better game than Stardew Valley.

    #1 - 02/01 - Resident Evil 2 (PS4)
    #2 - 19/01 - Trails of Cold Steel III (PS4)

Obtained all trophies bar two (one being a difficulty one so fuck that), 81 hours played almost entirely on "High Speed" mode so christ knows how long it would have been otherwise. Really enjoyable but a good 15-20 hours too long probably (first two games took me 55-60 hours each and felt perfect).

Once again left on a massive cliffhanger so they better release the final instalment this year, don't think its been confirmed yet!

Next up I think will be Borderlands 3, although do want to do To the Moon and finish Untitled Goose Game. Both are short so could be good options after that behemoth.

    #2 12/01 The Outer Worlds (PS4)
    #3 18/01 Hob (Switch)
#4 21/01 Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps DLC (PS4)

Great to be swinging back around this game's New York, not so great to do some of the awful combat heavy side missions.

@Humperfunk 4 is unconfirmed still in the west. I am still catching up with the Sky games, 40 hours into SC now so hopefully get through it this month or early Feb.

A few other games on the go too which are a bit shorter so I may reach my #2 soon ;)

Still waiting for my first completion of the year. It will be RDR2, but by Christ it is long. Been playing about 50 hours and still in Act 4. Enjoying it though.

Same for me, yet to complete a game this year. I am on chapter 20 of Uncharted (TNDC) so I would expect to finish that today or tomorrow maybe.

Between work and Destiny, completing games is getting slower for me too. It doesn't help that I always have to juggle several games at once.

I'm only halfway through Lords of Shadow, and still only in the first quarter of Horace, I think.

    1: Uncharted 1 (PS4) Beat on 23/01/19. Score 5/10.

Off and running at last! I don't think time has been very kind to this game at all (I did complete many moons ago on the ps3). I found most of the 22 chapters a slog and even on "Normal" the enemies could soak up a mountain of bullets. I do like the reward system however and wish other games had this. ND always does a good job with the bonus bits and bobs.

The camera could be awkward, espically when it becomes fixed for a climbing bit etc, as were the angles you had to shoot your gun at times. The second game happens to be my fav of the series...well it was. I will find out if that still holds true soon enough.
