@its-H1ggyLTD seen its £14.99 with all DLC on the PSN store, very tempted. I have The Old Blood still to play though which is very high on my list to get to next...

Polished this off and very enjoyable, cheap too so would recommend.

Started Jedi Fallen Order an hour ago or so, that's the new focus. Hoping I can rattle through it over the next few days and then will get onto either A Plague Tale or The Old Blood as mentioned above!

I first played this years ago, back when it was a mod that ended at Lambda Core. Then, after a few years, I got the Steam version from one of those monthly bundles that still didn't tell you what you were going to get. Three years later, it worked out fine, I guess.

As far as remakes go, it's pretty great. Not only it expands the original game significantly, it also fixes some of the most annoying bits. Unfortunately, I don't find myself agreeing with all of the changes: some of the new stuff works better, some of the old stuff worked better.

The big game changer here is Xen, and while it's indeed a massive improvement over the original, it doesn't feel much like Half-Life. It's ridiculously long (I clocked 17 hours in the whole game, of which 6 hours in Xen alone), there's lots of platforming and sections with infinite ammo (one part near the end is taken straight out of Half-Life 2 instead, but stretched too much) and suffers from a lot of padding. You know how Half-Life usually asked you to solve a puzzle to proceed? In Xen, you usually have to solve the same puzzle multiple times in a row. It's still okay, but it eventually gets long in the tooth, and stinks of amateurish design.

Shame, because the first part of the remake is great, but Xen would have been much better if it were only half as long.

Still, can't complain too much. It was great fun for the price. But considering how long Xen has been in development, it's a bit disappointing.

@Malek86 after seeing you mention it was a Humble Monthly I checked my Steam account and I actually did get this, had completely forgotten about that one (the problem of too much Steam stuff I suppose). Wonder if I should try it out as I always got bored of the original Half Life fairly early on (thought it was overrated along with the sequel)...

I keep flitting between games at the moment which doesn't help with this challenge. Almost finished Beautiful Desolation which is a very good post apocalyptic Frican point and I k adventure by the team behind Stasis, that is worth a look for fans of the genre, and got sidetracked into Project Zero 4. And some Yakuza style Fist of the North Star on console...

Edit - also still going through Trails in the Sky SC on my Linx Vision for handheld play. Really wish I could afford whatever a Gpd Win Max will cost for the massive spec boost over my aging beast... The Win 2 also is pretty out of budget and I worry about the smaller screen size (the Vision is 8")

@One_Vurfed_Gwrx ah, Project Zero 4, now there is a disappointing game. I guess it was still better than PZ5, but not by much, and at least PZ5 was a bit creepier.

I enjoyed 5 for what it was. I had started playing 4 before (admittedly on Dolphin with regular controls which work nicely once set up (bar the bloody piano bit that needed the pointer and was a pain, I hope that is the only pointer it in the game) years ago and lost my save. Still enjoying the replay though so far. Not 100%ing the ghosts list though but trying to get as many as I can (and I know the list is incompletable anyway).

I would give 1 a proper go but my Xbox is a little inaccessible (I played through the other 2 Nintendo versions over the last few years even though I have Xbox version of 2 as well, never really played 3 but I hear it is best played after 1 so despite being accessible it is on the back burner). I have a Japanese DVD about the series too to watch at some point that I picked up over there (along with a Trapt one).

Turing Test - short but sweet with a good story, enjoyed that.

Love me some Picross and since Murder By Numbers deleted the bastard save, decided to go back to Picross S and finish it once and for all!

Still playing Jedi Fallen Order, finding it a bit of a slog, but also started Persona 4 Dancing All Night, tremendous.

Animal Crossing preloaded for Friday too...

Covid-completion-a-thon continues with this one. I was obsessed with this game about 11 years ago on the Xbox 360 and got all the achievements, absolutely no chance I'm doing that this time as it's archaic and mostly frustrating.

After yet another game breaking glitch on Jedi Fallen Order, I parked it as I needed a break from it so finally played Doom. Superb stuff! Got all trophies except two, one being a grind and one completing the first level on the hardest difficulty which I can't be arsed to do. Will definitely get Eternal, but on the cheap in a couple of years!

Been sticking a couple of hours into Animal Crossing each day it's been out and keeping that ticking over. Think next game on PS4 will either be return to Jedi and just try and grit my teeth and get through it, or maybe A Plague Tale...

    10. 22/03 - Dark Fall: Ghost Vigil (PC) - 6/10

You know when they ask about your guilty pleasure? Well, mine is British horror adventure games. Lost Crown was one of my favorite point and clicks of the past few years, and games such as Dark Fall and Barrow Hill never fail to engage me, even if I have to resort to walkthroughs fairly often. Unfortunately, it's been slim pickings lately. And while Barrow Hill 2 was good enough, if slightly repetitive, this new Ghost Vigil is more on the disappointing side.

It has the usual flaws of the genre (screen hunting, some moon logic puzzles, items that can't be picked up unless you have triggered a specific event first) but this time there's also the added issue of the ghost hunting instruments: they are annoying to use, and unless you are constantly switching between them, you might end up missing some vital clue. The inventory for switching items is pretty unwieldy too.

At least the house is suitably creepy, but navigating between fixed spots in 90 degrees movements is an annoying compromise: it's not as fast as clicking through static screens, like in Myst, and also doesn't give you the freedom of a real 3D game (or at least 360 degrees screens like in Darkness Within). The voice acting is suitably terrible, but at this point I know it's a staple of the genre.

Still decent, but overall held back by some annoying design choices.

Oof, pretty hard game. Between the zombies taking off half your health in two bites and the lumbering lummoX pacing around the shop I was in a right old state for most of the game. Finished it as Leon (Hardcore) and will give the Claire 2nd scenario a go after Resident Evil 3 so I'll have a nice Jill Sandwich.

Wow. Just wow. They absolutely nailed that, brilliant art style for the final season and in Clementine, hands down one of the greatest protagonists in gaming history. Four games of seeing her grow as a person, fucking hell I'm blown away.

Now probably back to...sigh...Jedi Fallen Order.

It sounded and felt like a Star Wars game so hats off to them for that. Shame it was so frustrating from start to finish with glitches, crashes etc. Great ideas but you can tell that they are not the masters of the Uncharted of Souls craft as they fell obviously short in every area. Glad it's over, no chance I'll get involved in the sequel and if I wasn't quarantined, wouldn't have bothered with the Platinum.

Also very pleased I borrowed it and didn't pay money for it as that would have made it even worse.

New game needed now, torn between A Plague Tale, The Old Blood, the Dishonored spin off or a bigger game like Zanki Zero Beginnings...

    11. 27/03 - Ori and the Will of the Wisps (PC) - 7/10 - Game Pass

So this is where I get to complain about metroidvanias and their crap fast travel again.

To be fair, Ori is still better made than most, and the story is worth following up until the end. It starts a bit too slowly, but after you acquire a few upgrades, navigating around through enemy bash and grapple is pretty exciting. Later in the game, you could move through several areas without ever touching the ground.

But in the end, the combat system is weak, and the game is bad at telling you where to go next, something which is not helped by the (admittedly great) artwork sometimes making it difficult to understand what's supposed to be important. The difficulty is all over the place too, some areas are pretty hard, while others are too easy and get boring fast. Overall, I'd say it's easier than the first game.

I've also seen a few areas where the game was running like a dog. Which makes me wonder how they would run on console.

@Humperfunk Zanki Zero is very good. One of my favourite games of last year. Old Blood was decent enough and quite short but a bit weaker than its main game. Not got Plague Tale (it is one I hope to try one day) and not played the Dishonored game enough to comment.

I am falling into the trap of keeping starting new games as I get towards the end of a previous one so completing nothing at the moment. Almost finished Beautiful Desolation and making good progress in Fist of the North Star so let's get back to Fire Emblem Echoes, start Langrisser and worst of all get into Assassin's Creed Odyssey... At least with FOTNS I can blame less TV access time due to everyone being in the house all of the time...

    I am doing this wrong...

Well that was one of the most disappointing sequels I've played in a long time. Doom 2016 was pretty much perfect so they threw loads of shit at it and kept all of it even if it doesn't work, Marauders being the most egregious of all the bad new additions.

Not as good as the previous one due to too many dull patches, but it came to a strong crescendo.
