As an extra, I also want to keep track of how many of the games I finish this year, are games I've actually bought. This could be interesting.

    01. Cthulhu Saves Christmas (PC) - 6/10 - contest giveaway
    02. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Xbox One) - 7/10 - Games with Gold

Somehow better than the sum of its parts, but quite often it makes you notice that those parts are merely average, if not worse. Still, the action works well enough, and even though the imprecise platforming made me rage, it wasn't too much of a problem. The difficulty was just right, too.

The plot is fairly average stuff, but it's strangely redeemed by a ridiculous final chapter, and a post-credits scene that makes absolutely zero sense. I wonder if this was Kojima's contribution. It sure feel a bit like him.

Not sure how long it was, since there's no counter, but no less than 15 hours. It felt quite long for an action game. But I'd say it just barely managed to not outstay its welcome.

Heard the sequel is pretty bad. Still, if it also ends up free, I might just check it out. Besides, there's Mirror of Fate to consider first.

Going to have a bash at this, having had a veerrry busy 2019 and not getting much gaming done! Counting anything where I've seen the end credits.

    1 - 01/01 - Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order (XB1)
    2 - 12/01 - Dishonored Definitive Edition (PS4) - base game
    3 - 19/01 - Dishonored Knife of Dunwall (PS4)
    4 - 25/01 - Dishonored The Brigmore Witches (PS4)

Having not played it since getting about halfway through it on the PS3, I can't believe I waited that long, absolutely brilliant game. Have D2 and Outsider lined up and will be tackling them very soon.

First something else from the backlog, trying to finish some games I already own instead of buying so many new ones this year 😂

@DUFFMAN5 Can't blame for me for trying Duff! I reckon the two bits of dlc weren't far off the size of the main game, so should combine them into a single entry for number 3. Need all the help I can get if I'm going to get anywhere near 52!

    1) Story of Seasons Trio of Towns 3DS 12/01
    2) Story of Seasons Trio of Towns Miracle Worker NG+ 19/01

    3) My Nintendo Picross The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess 26/01

I've been playing this periodically for years and finally completed it today. Not bad for a freebie game with no microtransations. 6/10

    1. Cthulhu Saves Christmas (PC) (11/1/20) (7.5/10) (100% STEAM trophies)
    2. AI: Somnium Files (PS4) (28/1/20) (8.5/10) (PLAT 29/1/20)

82% trophies and a bit under 49 hours of play (some dead time in there though doing jobs etc) and I will probably polish off the last few trophies soon.

Enjoyable Uchikosho (Zero Escape series etc) VN/Detective game. The usual mix of serious and silly (with a bit of puerile humour thrown in too) you would expect from Uchikoshi. Story is reasonably done with a few twists I didn't immediately spot and several routes leading to the true end but a lot less complex than the likes of 428. Graphics are decent, even if the mouths seem a bit odd. Music and voice acting is mostly good (Iris can be annoying) in Japanese (the English dub is questionable) but there is a bug (or licensing issue) that makes the ending theme play dubbed in English regardless of language setting which was disappointing (if minor). Translation is mostly pretty good and would have been a challenge with all of the Japanese wordplay and puns involved. Not all work but not enough to spoil the story. The somnium segments can be interesting to work out as the main puzzle element too. Overall recommended to fans of Uchikoshi and the genre. Demos available on Switch and PS4.

Currently still playing Steins;Gate LBP and Trails in the Sky Sc (40 hours or so into it...)

Edit - got the platinum and all appendix entries in AI today, 100% done now...

    #2 12/01 The Outer Worlds (PS4)
    #3 18/01 Hob (Switch)

    #5 29/01 Flower (PS4)

Short and sedate. Which is fine for my current mood.

    01. 06/01 - Cthulhu Saves Christmas (PC) - 6/10 - contest giveaway
    02. 25/01 - Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Xbox One) - 7/10 - Games with Gold
    03. 31/01 - Paris 1313 (PC) - 4/10

An old French edutainment adventure. I thought it would be a Myst clone (as was common in the 90's), but it's actually a series of vignettes with poor minigames and nonsensical plot. The last few puzzles are especially bad. There's an archive with info about Paris in the renaissance, but it's not presented in an interesting manner. The visuals are underwhelming too.

In the end, it doesn't even come close to Opera Fatal, which is still the best edutainment game I've ever played.

    #1 - 02/01 - Resident Evil 2 (PS4)
    #2 - 19/01 - Trails of Cold Steel III (PS4)
    #3 - 02/02 - The Last of Us: Remastered (PS4)

Smashed my way through that and Left Behind, so am ready for Part II in May!

I have a list of 10 games on my backlog I want to try and do this year, so have now booted up Ys VIII. Made by the same guys as Trails III but should be different enough!

    #1 17th Jan Monster Hunter World. 10/10

Story done but i’ve got to start tackling the HR stuff.

    #2 31st Jan Tetris Effect 10/10

Journey completed. Fantastic game. Top soundtrack.

    #3 3rd Feb Contol (Platinum) 8/10

Really enjoyed the lore and general fights in this but hated the bosses, the checkpointing and the performance was pretty shocking at times. Hiss infected Tomassi can suck cocks in hell.

Great little game - fun combat, movement feels great, really varied even though it's only a few hours long. Soundtrack is brilliant too. 8/10

    1: Uncharted 1 (PS4) Beat on 23/01/19. Score 5/10.

2: Far Cry, New Dawn (xb1) Beat on 04/02/20. Score 8/10

Enjoyed for the most part, there is plenty of bloat of course, we are talking Ubi here, luckily I enjoy their "systems" and for the second Ubi title in succession (A.C. Odyssey being other) I have found the monetisation to be too egregious.

Luckily the gunplay, world and a good few of the characters are very enjoyable.

    Next!

@Bichii No, but I've wanted to for a while. I wanted to get round to finishing the first one - the playthough I've just finished was started in 2015!

That said, I did the first mission on 2 last night and it was a brilliant start.

The rule should be “can you play it without the base game? Yes = new game, No = existing game”.
Takes care of DLC and episodic content.

    01. 06/01 - Cthulhu Saves Christmas (PC) - 6/10 - contest giveaway
    02. 25/01 - Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Xbox One) - 7/10 - Games with Gold
    03. 31/01 - Paris 1313 (PC) - 4/10
    04. 06/02 - Knights in the Nightmare (DS) - 9/10

Ok, I said only new games, but for the first time I actually went the effort of getting the good ending, so I'm making it count. Also it took me 23 hours, so I shouldn't waste that.

For the record, the good ending means you first have to access a ridiculously well hidden stage. And when I say well hidden, I mean the entrance is opened by destroying an unspecified tile on the map, with no indication or markers or visual cues whatsoever. Worse, you actually have to destroy it twice - even if a player were to find the tile at random, they might destroy it once, find the item that pops out, and think that's all it was hiding.

Then, in that stage, you are faced with a super-high HP boss and a multitude of chests. The item you need for the good ending could be in any one of them, so you have to keep opening chests (but not destroy them, so the damage needs to be just right) while the boss walks around the arena and tries to destroy them instead.

I swear, these old Japanese games were specifically made to sell strategy guides.

Anyway, still the best game on the DS for my money. Shame that we'll probably never see it again. The PSP version lost something due to the lack of stylus controls, which is not something I can say for a lot of games.
