I can attest to that final climb being a swine, I was zig zagging up the steepest bit when I was there a few years ago. Looks like we have the podium battle under way properly now, going to be good to watch for the next couple of weeks.

I'm doing good numbers - might struggle in the third week with these big efforts though, lads.

    Roglic still looks imperious.

You’re going to need a lead going into the time trial my dude.

No positives for any of the racers, but no confirmation yet on the caravan:

I'd be surprised if we see any meaningful amount of positives until the second rest day.

Hopefully we get away without any though.

4 positives in the caravan: 1 staff member each from Team Cofidis, AG2R La Mondiale, Ineos Grenadiers and Mitchelton-Scott.

    Christian Prudhomme also tested positive.

A nice flat day and Amador and Carapaz not even on the front with van Baarle, Kwia, Rowe and Bernal.

    (Post made before Carapaz crashed… ;) )

Happy for Sam to get that win. I had thoguht he should never have gone down the pure sprinter route but it's worked out pretty ok. Winning TdF (and other GT) stages with the best team in the world, what the hell do I know?

It hit him mid interview afterwards- he’d just finished saying how he didn’t feel anything yet, and then he started crying.

    They was great.

Sagan has been compensating his lack of sprint top speed with body checking his way through the pack for a few days now.

Good to see it got him a DQ yesterday. They could've been a repeat of the way Cav crashed a few years ago by trying to pass where there is no space.

Van Aert got a 200 Swiss Francs fine for flipping him off after. :-)

Aye Sagan was a bit OTT yesterday. Sad he got DQ'd and docked points as it does make it less of a competition.

Wout was certainly having words with him after the line! 😃

The Jakobsen crash must be in their minds still, the jab of adrenaline that’d hit you as you feel someone barge into you would be enough to make your effort faulter.

    Interview after

~10k cases in a single day... and still the Tour rolls on. Batshit.

From that article, Spain's chart looks pretty ominous. Might not have been a sharp a rise, but they exceeded March.

Yeah, Spain and France are in a fucking terrible state right now. Hopefully the UK doesn't follow (though we might already be given we basically ran out of tests).

It's hard to compare. Belgium's infection numbers have risen sharply in July and the graph seemed comparable to the early days of the outbreak in March, before we went into lock-down. The difference is that there was limited testing capability back then, so those March numbers are only a fraction of the actual cases, with not sufficient people being tested.

The July figures are based on lots more tests. People with symptoms, people returning from an orange or red area...

The circumstances vary from country to country, it's tricky to interpret the graphs.

So much focus on the breakaway we missed the shenanigans in the yellow jersey group…

The numbers aren't the important aspect, the increase / increase in positivity is. Eventually they'll top out their testing capacity like the UK have and we'll have fuck all idea what's going on.

Either way, still ridiculous to be holding an event that encourages people to travel all over the country whilst this is going on..

At least they've now reduced the audience at the finnish since a day or 2. The amount of people on the climbs and in the last km was nuts.

    Exciting stuff today.

    Think I'll be supporting Pog.

(Also, the final 10km of Tirreno-Adriatico…)

Let's hope all goes well today with the tests.

Also ... never nice to crash whether it's by a frustrated colleague veering across your path at 60 km/h or an ambulance trying to squeeze past where there is no room. (2x Bob Jungels involved)

Yep, fingers crossed. Have heard anecdotally, that Bora are being very slack on Covid. Can’t decide if it’d shake things up or make the final week dull if a big team was ejected. Knowing the cycling authorities though, they’d fudge whatever was needed in order to not actually do what they promised so we’re probably OK!

Poor guy at the finish of TA. After all that work. Thought he might do it on that short climb a few K out but it looked like a man riding against a youth in the final 500 meters!

Utterly astonished, but this is great news...

The second round of testing at the Tour de France was carried out yesterday and there were zero positive COVID-19 tests out of a total of 785 individuals tested within the race bubble.

It’s amazing given the covid corridors they were riding up earlier.
