Registered 17 years agoI think the organizers would have wanted to go ahead no matter what but with the government closing schools and demanding sports events to be organized behind closed doors, they probably caved.
Too bad for Phillip Gilbert. He's keen on winning that 5th monument but San Remo is tough race to try and win and he's not getting any younger.
I doubt they'll be able to move it to the fall as the organizers are proposing. -

He's at the end of his contract with Ineos. Surely this has to follow you around after a while, it's not the first time he acts up.

Registered 15 years agoIt was great – so exciting. I remember rooting for Kwia to take it, but when MvdP's train appears in the distance, snaking over the width of the road the atmosphere is incredible.
Anyway, there's a documentary above Movistar in 2019 on Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/search?q=movistar&jbv=81130094&jbp=0&jbr=0 -

I watched the virtual offering of the Ronde this past weekend.
It was ... weird. Props to the public broadcast company and the teams/riders for trying to offer something as an alternative though.
Naessens, who came 2nd, immediately got shit on social by his regular training group (all pros from different teams that live near each other) who posted a sketch from a comedy show in which a poor performing amateur cyclist decides to quit his team after they lay into him because he's such an embarrassment to them. :-D -

Registered 15 years agoThey've thrown in an extra month at least! The latest of those behind the scenes at the Ronde documentaries has just been on , and I watched 2018's last night. They're so good, and even when you know the result, getting the footage from all the players makes for an exciting and tension-filled hour. -

Registered 14 years agoAh, YouTube, found them and they’re bloody brilliant.
Watched the Ronde 102 one- loved the old dude on the motorbike bossing the whole thing. Inside the cars it’s surprisingly chaotic, wonder if that’s a factor of the randomness of the classics a bit. Surprising amount of piss discussion too.
Only shame was the women’s race did t get anything like the screen time and respect it deserves in the editing. -

Registered 14 years agoBit of heads up for watching the upcoming season. Europsport via BT seems only to be on their 50 quid a month (subject to usual phone haggling) deal* So I've binned off BT, as cycling is pretty much the only TV thing I watch these days, and grabbed a year sub to Eurosport which is 20 quid for a year until July 20.
*Edit if your contract is expiring that is.
