Registered 15 years agoSince the PS4 releases I stopped preordering Tales games and waited for sales (actually enjoyed Zestiria and Berseria though) and this will be abother wait and see entry, particularly with the generation crossover (no particular desire for a PS5 this year...) -

Registered 18 years agoYeah, I doubt you'd get the PS5 one with the PS4 game, that's just not Bandai Namco's MO. -

Registered 9 years agoShin Megani Tensei 3 is getting good reviews. Can't wait!
Edit: seems to be some poor choices like DLC and the music quality though.

From what I gather they only have the original compressed PS2 soundtracks to use (and any remasters don't cover the whole OST so would give inconsistent quality and likely make the lower quality tracks sound even worse in comparison). Hopefully most performance inconsistencies have been fixed as I have braved the Switch version for potential handheld play.

The DLC doesn't sound an issue really as the Dante DLC from the Maniacs release (the original western releasr was this version) is the main DLC but you get the full, later, previously unreleased Maniacs Chronicles Edition by default (which has Raidou instead of Dante). Dante likely has some royalty fee to Capcom too. Only different version is PC which I gather starts out as pretry much vanilla and you need to pay for Dante and Raidou (due to Steam's crappy SKU system and Raidou being removed in China and South Korea due to his colonial outfit and associations). -

Registered 18 years agoChecking the Steam page, in the UK at least the Chronicle pack is free, so you do get Raidou. The paid ones aren't priced but they come up as 'N/A'. -

I hadn't actually checked, just heard it was DLC. Making it free seems a sensible solution to the problem so cannot fault them there.

Registered 9 years agoI got the digital.deluxe of Nocturne so I could play today (early release).
It also comes with the Dante version, anyone have any idea if I should play that one or the one without? -

Registered 14 years ago@Humperfunk in the Dante-less version, Raido appears instead. They should be more or less the same, so choose whichever one you prefer.
In the PS2 game Dante was missing an important skill, but the remaster fixed this. -

Registered 18 years agoIt's basically just one sub-plot that it changes. Choose Raidou or Dante! -

Registered 14 years agoI do not think there is any real difference. As far as I am aware one of the characters is just changed into Dante and it has no real bearing on the game beyond the character being more interesting as Dante. -

I'm very conflicted as wondering if Dante being in it is going to be a bit immersion breaking. Like "what are YOU doing here?!"
I've started the Dante one though so fuck it, will crack on! -

It's pretty fun to play. It takes a little while to get the hang of using the psychokinesis mid-combat. There's a second or two from the moment you start pulling the item to the moment it hits your enemy, so there's a timing element to it. Melee attacks are instantaneous. The partner abolities with RB+ a face button are flashy.
But yeah, it looks lovely. The cyberpunk anime world design does bring to mind Astral Chain specifically, and the combat sort of feels somewhere between that and Jedi Fallen Order, with the balance of sword attacks and force powers.
Err.
It's fun. 👀
Anyway, I'm going to play a bit more. -

Registered 3 years agoCompleted the demo. I guess it reminds me of NieR Automata meets Jedi Fallen Order. The stages are a bit flat and linear, or at least the one from the prologue/demo was. I guess no moreso than a Devil May Cry stage, but it does make it feel a bit PS2. Which to be fair, could be a positive if like me, you're burnt out on big open world games, but it would've been nice to explore the city a but.
Gameplay is fast and flashy though, so I enjoyed my time with it. Played with the guy, will do a run as the girl next.
But yea, I think I'll be buying it day one, as I tend to enjoy flashy anime nonsense. -

Registered 14 years agoThe Scarlet Nexus demo vaguely reminded me of Nier Automata mixed with the aesthetic of FF Type 0 and a lot of menus. I didn't really dislike it, but this sort of stuff is not my cup of tea either.
Framerate seems ropey on Series S. I say "seems", because analysis confirm it's actually pretty stable, but for some reason it doesn't feel so. There are also some weird visual effects that make the picture look blurrier than it should. -

Registered 18 years agoIt's solid 4k60 on the Series X but yeah, I'll be picking it up on PC because of that terrible chromatic aberration. -

About six hours into SMTIII, really enjoying it so far. Significantly more complex I think than a number of JRPGs I've played in recent times, have had to look at a guide a few times to work out where to go! -

Registered 15 years agoI fixed my PSP the other day after 10 years of it being broken (analogue nub going bonkers, replaced it 5 times to no avail, finally replacement parts from aliexpress did the trick) and dug out my Tales of Eternia UMD. That is so, so lovely.
I really want to take a shot at another Tales of game now. Any pointers what I should start with? -

Registered 15 years agoI see I can totally get Symphonia Chronicles on PS3 physical for fairly cheap. Should I go for that then, or get Vesperia on PS4?
What about Xilia, Zestiria, etc that are all digital on PS3? These any good? -

Registered 18 years agoIf you have Game Pass, then Vesperia is on that.
In terms of battles I definitely prefer the later games, Xillia onward, but the world and dungeons in particular get rather sparse. Graces has a unique take on the battle systems that's really good too. I'd love to be able to play the Xillia games and Graces R again without having to get my PS3 out. -

Registered 15 years agoThanks for the answers. Symphonia can be had from US PSN for 20 bucks for each game or 20 for both. Not on EU PSN for some reason. I still fancy the physical version. Decisions, decisions... -

I seem to recall that Europe had some compilations of Tales games on PS3 physically (if you can find them), Symphonia Chrinicles/Graces f and Xillia 1/2.

I have yet to play the Xillias... I enjoyed Graces and Symphonia (on GC) though. -
Played an hour or so of SMT3. I am a big fan of the persona series but never really got into the the SMT series. First hour is pretty interesting, though it does the P3 thing of turning you into a dot when you move areas. -

I tend to prefer Vesperia and Xillia on the 3D side, and Phantasia and Destiny for 2D.
If I were to recommend just one, I'd probably go Vesperia though, which I feel is the best in the series. -
The best Tales game is clearly Berseria. Though you probably need to play a few of the others first to understand just how many of their story tropes it breaks.
