So my thick as pig shit father in law decided today was a great day to go on an outing with another bunch of oldies. You know, aside from it making my missus sad, I wouldn't shed a single fucking tear if he got it and it ended up killing him.

From what I've heard from supermarket staff and various 'key worker' receptionists this does appear to be true - no idea why.

The elderly have lived a lot longer than us and have seen a lot more too. Theyíve seen it all and as they approach the end of their lives they donít care too much about this virus. Nothing is going to stop them enjoying their lives and getting outside.

Thereís nothing that an elderly couple hate more than sitting in the house all day. You canít stop them, so thatís why we should all just be careful for their sake.

Weíll be the same at their age.

    My folks are isolating.

I can assure you if a few of their friends die the message will register with the old folks who have "seen it all."

    Nice weather or not.

@erasr - do you really believe this shite or are you just trolling? I honestly can't tell any more.

My parents, in their late 70s, are self-isolating as they would like to have the opportunity to spend more time with their grandchildren. These other elderly idiots out shopping every day aren't heroically showing their stoicism. They're being just as stupid as the idiots having barbecues.

Even potentially killing others... which is nice.

...and no, we realistically wont be the same at their age, because frankly no generation has been as self centred, arrogant and entitled as the boomers.

The "fuck you, got mine" generation.

Some people can't see past their own noses. They lack the foresight or imagination to realise the potential catastrophe this could end up being, because it's not in their immediate periphery. These people are stupid cunts.

You might want to save the cash for the memory pills you appear to need...

I'll bite though, why will he be busy in Romford?

Have they started doing any mass disinfectants of anywhere in the UK? The tube for one thing. I donít know how this goes away, or slows down for that matter, without that considering how long it lives on surfaces.

@crispy, good to know youíre not stopping him anymore ;) In all seriousness a nice gesture of you, Iím living completely by myself at the moment about 1,000 miles away from anyone Iíve met more than 2 times and I know video calls are keeping me going.

Well, I've (temporarily) lost both jobs. I do work for councils, and they're apparently trying to get staff to work in other jobs while services (like libraries) are closed. But for the time being I'm out of work, since there's not a whole lot of work things I'm able to do from home.

The old fucker who called into the radio show is a case in point. All about them, unable to comprehend the impact of their actions (old and young). My mum didn't go out much before but is now definitely staying put. She likes living, seeing her grandkids and great grandkids. She listens to that radio station and heard the call live, and was incensed. The selfishness of all those ignoring the advice is staggering.

    @challenge_hanukkah

Assuming that we can't work, we're being encouraged to take leave with pay, then (when that runs out) leave without pay. I guess I'll be able to get dole payments if that happens, though the system is pretty fucking overloaded right now.

I'm lucky in that I'm currently living with family, since I came back from volunteering overseas last year. I was literally just about to put a deposit down on an apartment before all this hit, and was able to pull the plug in time. So at the very least I'm not saddled with debt (though I'm helping out with bills and such).

All in all, I'm luckier than a lot of people. But I would definitely prefer to be working, for the sense of routine if nothing else.

And Australia (so far) hadn't had a massive outbreak of cases. So if the number of new cases slows down, hopefully we'll be able to continue restricting travel and get closer to normal sooner rather than later. Unlike other countries (hello America) we are not yet *completely* fucked.
