Yeah most reviews will play on easier settings as they've got their tight deadlines to meet.

I'm logging back in, hopefully I can finally beat this certain battle I'm stuck on.:(

Whoop whoop! I did it second time today thank god. First four levels done and each time I've missed one secret which is annoying.

I wasn't convinced by the first level but it started clicking for me at some point during the second (or third?), maybe around unlocking dashes or taking on the first Doom Gate thing. Really enjoying it now. Although I'm not playing on Nightmare difficulty but the one below it.

If I remembered correctly, didn't Doom guy get sent to Hell by Hayden at the end of the 2016 game? How did he get out and be on a spaceship right from the off? Does it matter?

@Tuffty I guess it matters roughly as much as the plot in a porn movie.

Well, I know itís not that important but surely you canít just ignore how the past one ended.
If youíre going to have a plot at all it has to be consistent.

If you miss a secret, how do you go back to axplore, when you've already automatically moved into a different area via fmv?

You can fast travel when you reach the end of a level, and you can replay levels.

it's brilliant! And I can play on ultra nightmare video settings surpringsly.

Difficulty wise I'm one up from normal whatever that is. Seems about right for old man me.

    Brutal glory kills...

And I'm back up on the fence. I love the look of the environments and knowing there will be more of that sweet soundtrack... Hmmmmmmm.

Just played the first hour or so, and I had a bit of a rocky start. It feels unnecessarily difficult, especially with running out of ammo so easily. However I've now started unlocking some of the extras and that's making a difference. Looking forward to a more extended session tomorrow.

Played the first 3 hours and I did felt that it is slightly more difficult compared to DOOM 2016. It really tests your quick reflexes and reaction times but I am so used to this system. This was on HMP difficulty by the way.

Other than that it is really fun like it's supposed to be.

    Ordered about six weeks ago.

It's harder than doom 2016 but like that game it gets easier as you progress if you explore as you become very powerful .

Gone through the third level right now. It was a much better level. Additionally appreciating the environmental variety this time around, and using the chainsaw more is alleviating the ammo concerns a fair bit. That said though I continue to have complaints.

    - Button prompts just seem to not work sometimes
    - Enemies sometimes don't seem to drop health when glory killed
    - Some of the secret encounters are utterly terribly designed clusterfucks
    - Some of the secret encounters are clearly designed around using things like explosive barrels to complete quickly enough, except the barrels don't respawn when you retry, which is stupid
    - Secret encounter timers don't end immediately on killing all the enemies, meaning you can kill them all and fail anyway
    - I wasted a bunch of lives on one secret encounter and ran out then had to do a fairly large chunk of level again as a result, which I guess means the checkpointing is kind of bad
    - The climbable surfaces are annoying and don't work well in first person, and sometimes you randomly can't grab them properly
    - Some of the puzzles are just unintuitive
    - The monster infighting is entirely cosmetic and they don't actually do any damage to each other
    - The melee attack when not charged into blood punch literally does zero damage

The slayer gates are the game at its best so far. It's basically Doom 2016 which a bunch of unncessary faff and a jarring tone thus far otherwise.

"Dodging into a climbable wall will also make you grab it"
    "Apart from when it doesn't"
"But that's ok as you can press E to grab it too"
"But that's also the melee attack button, and we'll just have you do a melee attack on the wall instead of grab it"
    "Oops you died"

I mean the platforming isn't annoying me that much.

It's mostly the bizarreness of it. Like everyone else was trying over the last few years to make this stuff more seamless parts of the environment and then in this game you turn a corner and suddenly it looks like a fucking Mario 64 level with random floating platforms and twirling fire bars all over the place. It's just missing a few green pipes.

It contributes a bit to a feel of a lack of atmosphere in the game, which I never really gave 2016 much credit for until I've played this one.

Thatís my big issue with it. 2016 was really consistent in itself in delivering an experience.
Eternal has the art from that game but the level design, pick-up design, and story all seem to have different goals, so it feels like a mash of 4 things that donít work for me.
