What by saying the Xbox has its own version of thr same thing. Negating any secret sauce at all. Especially now devs not linked to Sonys reveal (handpicked) are saying series X is Staggeringly more powerful.

It blows my mind that people actually still give a shit about specs. I thought that nonsense died out around the Amiga/Atari ST era!

Unless you're 12 this literally means nothing. Who gives a flying fuck about the hardware? Most people end up buying whichever machine offers the exclusives they want to play, then buy the other machine when they have money to spare. Just enjoy the fucking games, you weirdos.

People were fighting about specs all the way from the Commodore 64 era up until the PS4 and Xbox One. What made you think things would have changed now?

@EMarkM sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of this three-voices SID. But I guess you wouldn't understand.

@Malek86 Hah, I guess it just must have passed me by. I (naively) figured that the homogenisation of console hardware into "PC in a box"-type machines had done away with all the willy waving :) I suppose I also have less patience for people broadcasting their insecurities through their brand loyalties than I used to.

Does it? I give a shit about which platform is going to give me value, and has technology capable of playing a multiplatform game better than another.

Can someone funnier than me please make sure this thread continues. It's very entertaining. Especially for me. I had an Acorn Electron.

Just for the record: I had a C64 :p But I still really enjoyed going round my mates and playing on his Speccy for those Ultimate games.

Carlo, if you were that bothered about the performance and value to play third party games surely you'd just buy a PC and make back the initial money you spent over the whole generation with cheaper game prices? ;)

Value, sure, thatís picking the machine that plays the games you like.
Playing multi-platform games better is a lot further down the list unless the difference is huge and thatís all youíre going to play. While 1st party exist and the difference is minimal itís a much less important thing to care about, outside of personal interest in the tech itself.

I donít play on the most powerful machine now, and Iíll continue to do so going forward in order to play specific titles that interest me that are unavailable elsewhere.

Am I right in thinking you couldn't rent NES or SNES games in the early 90's? I think thats why my parents bought me a Master System and Mega Drive.

My local video shop didn't seem to give a fuck. Everything was for rent. I think I rented Street fighter 2 a few hundred times before I got it for Christmas. Halcyon days.

I nearly bought a BBC Model B a few weeks back as it's seen a bit of a resurgence with new games and mods, etc. My only experience of them at the time was at school, but the price was right and I liked the idea of having a mess about.

Wife would have gone fucking spare, though :D

BBC Micro's and Acorns were the computer of choice for my primary school, 1985 onwards.

In the Benelux we pretty much only had consoles. I was a nintendo kid. It was hard, sega and later playstation were considered the cool consoles.
