Registered 11 years agoAye, you're probably right. I just thought the Add-On thing was a precursor. Perhaps we'll see another periferal for the DualSense. Either that or I'll have to finally bite the bullet and get a the inevitable Scuff DualSense. -

Registered 12 years agoI think they're likely to do another peripheral. Having paddles out of the gate would add to the cost (and Sony would either have to eat that cost, or pass it on to the consumer). Putting out another peripheral both makes them a bit more money, and probably saves the vast majority a bit of cash - not everyone is going to care about paddles/back buttons (and I say that as an owner of the Xbox Elite pad who would never want to be without them again). -

Registered 12 years agoMight be some capacitive sensing on the back of the handles, like on some of the VR controllers. -

More tech creep from the VITA, like the D-Pad. Be good if it's as effective as a physical button.

Registered 12 years agoWell no, now they can go “oh btw, capacitive buttons on the back” in a couple of weeks. The point is to keep people talking about their product.
Also, the name makes no sense (haha) right now. -

Registered 11 years agoWell, the haptics do make 'sense'. The 'HD Rumble' is supposed to offer a deeper 'sense' of what's happening in game. -

Registered 17 years agoI have not read up on the new pad but please god let it have a textured back like Xbox pads.
I'm playing more ps4 than ever (trying to clear backlog) and the back of the pad is horrible, no "grip" to speak of.
I can just about put up with the left stick being in the wrong place, but come on! 😉 -

Registered 14 years agoRegarding controllers and backwards compatibility, surely Sony's feet have to be held to the fire on that one! I get that they want to introduce new features, but to completely make PS4 ones redundant is crazy!
Could always have old ones on hand for an impromptu 4 way FIFA game! Or at the very least they could release a driver for them making them really easy to use as a Windows controller (bit of a fiddle at the moment, but surprisingly easy on Linux) -

I don't have a problem with grip..do you have really creepy sweaty hands and the pad just slides out of your hands?

Registered 17 years agoCan’t say grip is an issue here either, and my Xbox pad (Scorpio edition) doesn’t have a textured back. Nice to have, sure, but nothing essential and it’s certainly not standard. -

?
revan I do not get sweaty hands ever, I hardly ever swear for what it is worth. Also, hardly!
I love how you put "creepy" with "sweaty" together what a fertile imagination you must have 😁
Back to the pad, it just feels wrong. -

Registered 17 years agoSo you two are happy as Larry with you pads, great. I have been spoiled with my last few Xbox pads.
So if you had the choice, smooth or textured ? I'm assuming both would stay with smooth. -

Registered 17 years agoI take it back - the xbox pad does have a textured back.
So does the PS4 pad. They’re both very subtle but it’s there. -

Registered 4 years ago@DUFFMAN5 I'm pretty sweaty myself, get completely drenched at the gym but I don't get sweaty hands. Every day's a school day eh. .gif)
Yeah actually I think derbs is correct, the PS4 pad I have has a subtile textures feel to the hand grips. -

My white ps4 pad has no texture. The bottom of the pad (the bit that fits in ones palm does, well sort of rubberised) but the bit where your, well my fingers sit, is not. My Xbox pads have a very noticeable texture, it is one of the selling points of them!
@revan Pure filth!

Registered 17 years agoYou can also already see in the PS5 pad that the back is textured, with the face smooth. It might be more than you want, but I expect that’ll always be the case until you can use an Xbox pad for everything. -

The regular PS4 pads have a completely textured back - it’s a grey textured plastic, whereas the face is black and smooth.

Registered 4 years agoWe all know the Xbox pad is the best. Before the ds4 the Xbox pad was miles and miles better but the ds4 made it pretty close. -

Registered 17 years agoThe ps4 triggers are still not great admittedly a complete upgrade over the awful ds3 ones. I think my fav thing about ds4 is the speaker, without a doubt a cool little feature. -
Duff, there’s no malice there. You, like numerous others, prefer the design of the Xbox pad - you literally wrote that the left stick was in the “wrong place”. Adding a bit of extra texture (that may or may not feel how you like regardless) won’t change your preference.
