There was probably already a thread for this, but I'll be fucked if I can find it. First pic from Villeneuve's new Dune movie, with VF promising mor fax tomorrow.

No one is going to be able to search for a thread called D U N E either, so expect a new thread soon.
They will. It searches within threads not just the title.

    You're welcome.

Have you rewatched them recently? It was wonky at the time, it's even wonkier now.

Hatchet Harry does not a good Gurney make.

The Baron was so hideously miscast in that I can't believe they went ahead with filming. Only James McAvoy made the latter series bearable for me.

I'll not hear anything bad said about Lynch's movie though. I even had to put my fingers in my ears when Lynch himself has talked about it. :-D

I thought Ian McNeice was one of the better things about the first miniseries.

I've liked him in many things - I just don't think he conveyed much if any of the character of the Baron I expected. All the politics, none of the menace. But then he wasn't the only one - the Gurney casting has already been mentioned. :)

Yeah, he was good at being preening and Machiavellian, but wasn't intimidating in the slightest. I think he was going for a Charles Laughton in Spartacus vibe.

Agreed, he was precisely one of the casting decisions I was thinking of. And Stephen Berkoff.

But yeah, watched it last year and will do so again, I don't mind wonky, if it's wonky on a budget but done with love for the source material. Which I think it is.

Also the music is great (though I'm sure they just flat out steal the film score at one point) and the end assassination montage things are great. Loads of great performances, Ian McNeice and James McAvoy stand out. And loads and loads of beautiful people. Barbora Kodetova for instance :)

Still one of my favourite things.

Trailer is up. I think the art direction, cast, general tone and aesthetic look really promising.

But who the fuck made that choice of music? Felt so out of place. A few people commenting that it might be a nod to Jodorowsky’s ill-fated, failed adaptation of Dune, which was meant to have a Pink Floyd score, but even if that’s true it felt ‘off’ for me.

Man, that's pretty awesome. I wasn't aware they had such an impressive cast. And Villeneuve can do no wrong for me since BR 2049 (well, unless he fucked this up something massive but I doubt it)

I wouldn't worry too much about the music, trailers very often have a completely different score than the film.

Yeah, that trailer wasn't great. I'm sure the film will be good as the director hasn't made a bad film but that was a bit..underwhelming.
and why has he cast fucking Aquaman in it?

Yeah Aquaman can get fucked. Thought it looked great though, love the visual style of his films.

Yeah, that music was a bit jarring. I love the soundtrack from the Lynch film - they should have just licensed that.

Just checked to be sure and Hans Zimmer did the score apparently. He did some great ones in the past so it'll probably be just fine. The trailer's music is definitely not his style.

Also, the soundtrack of the Lynch one was apparently made by... TOTO. I never knew, I always assumed it was Angelo Badalamenti like most Lynch stuff.

    Squee. All of it.

I'm pretty sure a small part of the Lynch film score was used in the mini-series, I think when Leto dies or around then. Not sure they paid for it, probably said it was a tribute or sent an IOU or something.

Very few directors have any say in trailers. I'd be surprised if Villeneuve had any say in this trailer at all.

It wouldn't be the first time a studio missed the tone when promoting a film.

They should have used the score from the video game of the shitty Lynch movie. That had an awesome soundtrack.

Yeah agree, the music was weird. Felt like it was about to break into a Nu Metal or something.

It looks pretty great. And looks like wayyyyy too much money has probably been thrown at it given the BR 2049 box office return. That said, it looks a bit like Sand Dune Wars: A New Worm, so maybe it'll be all killer, no filler and people will flock to it.

I’m hyped. It looks like what I imagined Dune was when I read the books. The sandworm looked particularly awesome.

I still like it for what it is, but as an adaptation of the book it’s absolute hot garbage.

I'm an absolute Lynch fanboi but I'll happily admit his Dune was a bit shit and while I also love Herbert's Dune I don't even mind that it's not a very faithful adaptation of the book. It's just not that good of a flick; the pacing in particular is really odd, even for Lynch.

I watched it again recently and to add insult to injury it doesn't hold up very well either.

As well as being a bad adaptation it’s also virtually indecipherable without having read the books in the first place. At least this film is only covering the first half of the book, probably right up to him gaining the title Muad’dib.
