So the original Crysis is being remastered for pc, current gen and amazingly Switch. Also using their own ray tracing solution that doesn't need hardware support. Big fan of this game so it's a definite buy. Has to be an improvement over the 360 version at least.

I might be interested, depending on the price. Mostly to see how they handled the graphics.

Although the truth of the matter is that a million games have done Crysis a lot better than Crysis itself in the following years. Even if they fix all the issues, you are still left with a game that feels definitely old at this point.

The suit modes are almost entirely useless outside of stealth, the much-flaunted open map is actually almost as restrictive as the average Call of Duty... what exactly is left, aside from the name?

I remember the first half of the game being great and then going to shit in the 2nd half.

I disagree, I don't think many games, well, single player games have expanded on its sandbox nature. The AI is brilliant on the higher difficulties, which again most games have not improved on. If I'm being honest most games of this genre have been quite static. Admittedly the aliens are bobbins.

I'd want 3 more than 2. But yeah the trilogy would be great.

Crysis was a great game, though it got a bad rep at the time. I always suspected it copped for a lot of salt from people whose PCs just weren't up to it.

On the harder difficulties, you really needed to use the suit abilities. I remember using speed mode to sprint out of cover up to an APC and using strength to punch it off a cliff.

The floaty bit in the alien ship was shit, but that's only a short-ish section.

I worked on the first game and even 13 years later I’ll find it harder to play and enjoy it like it’s a “new” game. 2 I’ve only played once and 3 I’ve played about 2 hours.

Wasn't the bad performance more to do with Crytek incorrectly betting the farm on higher cpu frequencies being the future as opposed to multi core, so it still runs like a dog.

For a game that billed itself as letting you approach fights however you wanted, the armor mode sure sucked hard. Even on normal difficulty, I never wanted to be caught out in the open. Speed mode was only good enough to move from one cover to the next, and strength mode... let you jump high? I've heard stories of people punching tanks to death, but that seems like something you'll manage to do once per playthrough.

Most annoying, the opening video made it all look really cool, until you actually played and it was Far Cry with invisibility.

At least they fixed that in Crysis 3, where the armor was actually somewhat durable.

I wasnt a huge fan of the first (or any of the sequels). I remember it being stunning to look at though.

Yeah good looking games but I've never enjoyed the way they play. All fart and nah shite as the scotch say.

I got it a lot later in a discount myself and I thought it was alright but not great. I didn't like the setting all that much, I preferred Crysis 2 by a large margin in that regard (and other regards as well)
I also think I never used anything other than stealth and armour powers; stealth always seemed the best option and armour was needed for when things got hairy.

The second half with the aliens was poo.

Isn’t it the third time this game has been released now, is it really that good? I imagine that game’s have moved on a bit even if the tech hasn’t.

I seem to vaguely remember enjoying it. If it's cheap enough then I might take a look.

I enjoyed 1 quite a bit. With stealth and a good precision weapon it was basically Predator: The Game. Engage stealth, line up a headshot, decloak, fire, recloak. Watch the enemies panic. Plus, it was quite fun punching a wooden shack into matches. And throwing crabs.

2 I enjoyed about half of, mainly because it was far more constricted than the first. 3 I never played, though I've always meant to. Give me remasters of all three and I'll play them.

Ah Crysis, the boring as fuck game I put on a million times to test new video cards, then wondered why it was still CPU limited 40 years after its release.

Hopefully by remastered they mean they replaced the shitty half of the game with something worth playing.

Much preferred Warhead myself. In fact, I found the disc the other day and re-installed it, it does still look pretty good despite its age.

Didn't play 2 or 3, not planning to either. Also played Crysis on PS3, looked more ropey obviously but still not a bad effort for the time.

I always thought the Crisis games were a pile of shit. The perfect example of all fur coat and no knickers.

I must have installed this on every new pc to see how I would run, but I don’t think I ever got beyond the first level.
“This runs well, I could play this”. But I never did.

Which one was your FPS of choice?

    Fortnite?

It's alright. That's about all the enthusiasm I can muster for it. Main reason why I'm not overly excited for the remaster. They're jazzing up the graphics of an alright game and re-releasing it.

I much preferred the first Far Cry. Which also looked amazing at the time.
