| Indeed. Pretty 30fps for most, and I’ll bet we’ll still get dips into the 20’s, which is actually more depressing than the foot of the Tower Of Latria. |

Digital foundry article on Demon's possible technical aspects: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2020-demons-souls-remake-ps5-first-look
Looks like it could be 4K 30fps in 'High-res mode' and possible 1440p 60fps for 'Performance mode'.

Registered 16 years agoI'm getting cold feet on this due to so many changes that don't really fit the mood the original game was trying to create.
Why change the colour palette so drastically? Fromsoft were trying to create a drained World that had literally been sucked dry by demons, all that was left was faded, sepia tinged dusty ruin and hopelessness. The remake has too much high key colour and contrast, Demon's Souls is supposed be dark and murky looking.
Then there are the completely unnecessary redesigns to enemies and armour, environments etc., what are you doing? They're imposing another team's art direction over the original designs which are getting discarded and overwritten like they were garbage.
I just don't know what's going on with SCEE these days, they boarded the Fuck-Up Train and are determined to ride it all the way to the last stop ever since they relocated headquarters to California. -

Registered 16 years ago@Cappy Don't think I agree. An awful lot of what you put down to the "mood" of the original game is what I'd attribute to the fact it was a technical shitshow. People rag on Dark Souls for Blight Town, but that would have been at the better end of the Demon's Souls spectrum. Polishing up Demon's Souls for a new generation of hardware is going to pull back a lot of the fog and that's what I see in the trailers. -

Polishing is one thing, they are actually changing the original art direction. These areas were supposed to evoke a particular mood and these alterations are changing that.
Developers have had no restrictions on colour selection since the mid-90s. I'm not sure what you're talking about when mentioning pulling back fog, Demon's Souls employs long draw distances outdoors or claustrophobic darkness in the dungeons and depths. This isn't Silent Hill on the PS1, use of low contrast, desaturated palettes was a deliberate decision. As I previously said this is a World that has been used up and drained, it's supposed to look like that. -

Registered 5 years agoMaybe think of it as a sequel. Same location, just many years later with life slowly returning to the land? The existance of the new one doesn't erase the old one from your memories or even your ps3 if you still have one. -

Registered 16 years agoday one purchase for me, it was my introduction to the souls series and the reason I took a bunch of days off work for Dark Souls' launch.
I do hope that (unlikely as it is) someone gets to remake Dark Souls 2 one day. Loads of good ideas and interesting gameplay but, like Demon's, some crappy design choices that need fixing. Unlike Demon's, though, it's so fucking ugly, squashed and clumsy-looking that, outside of a vanishingly few areas, it could really do with a lick of paint from an outsider. Doubt there'd be an internet storm if *it* had an atmosphere overhaul. -

Just setup a second hand PS3 and put on demon's souls just for some nostalgic run-througha. Initial opening cinematic is just as cool as before but then you get this against the really quiet soulful music in the background -

Registered 1 year ago@quadfather I've dug out the PS3 for another playthrough as well.
Not got round to it yet but apparently you can still play online using a private server that was set up after they shut the official ones down. Requires manually changing your primary DNS.
There is a site called The Archstones that details it all.
Looks like they have done some cool stuff with allowing you to coop at any level range and change world tendency by placing specific messages in the game. -

Ooo that's interesting! I'll check it out.
Well, I'm standing outside phalanx fog gate as I type this. Just got through 1-1 so I can level up after doing phalanx.
Came close to coming a cropper quite a few times in the level too. I'm quite rusty!
Should be a hilarious run to get the falchion in 4-1, but I want a easy dex/magic build to start with. Good job too considering I've nearly died loads in the first level!
And no, I didn't beat the vanguard in the tutorial area

Registered 11 years agoHaha I'm getting my arse kicked in this.
Can't for the fucking life of me make the falchion run. Just get cut to ribbons by the skeletons.
2-1 isn't that fucking easy with a pissy rapier either.
1-2 I'm inching through now.

Don't worry about it, most people who love the series either played if later or never.
Not me though, it was my first 😉 -

Now it's time to exact my revenge -

Same, though I wouldn't rate it top. Think you had to 'be there' to fully appreciate it in 2020 (or gloss over its many weaknesses).
