| Does tendency gravitate towards the middle if playing online like it did on PS3? From my playthrough I think it does, but I haven't been paying enough attention to say for sure. If so, just wait some time and you'll be golden. Just don't go in there alive. |

Kill a boss -> Light
Probably more to it than that but that was as far as I figured out. -

Registered 9 years agoJust beat Tower Knight without killing any archers. I never even got to the first boss on the PS3 version, the sheer elation I feel right now is insane.
Fiance is watching TV now so can't get on the PS5, gagging to play more! I did the run to get that Crescent Falchion +1 whatsit so with my magic stat, absolute carved through him. Did some grinding on 4-1 also, I've never been on world 2, 3 or 5 so going to be a great experience. -

Registered 14 years agoI completed this last week. Only my 2nd souls game that I've completed. Got stuck on the last boss but once I figured out his move set it was actually pretty easy.
Can't decide if I preferred this or Bloodborne. Was tempted to pick up Dark Souls but it just looks laughably slow now. Maybe next gen! -

Registered 12 years agoFinished this last night and have mixed feelings. On the plus side, as a massive Soulsborne fan who never had a PS3 it's fantastic to finally get to play it. It was impressive to see just how much of the Souls formula was nailed on the first attempt, and there were so many parts that I recognised from the other games in the series. From the point of view of plugging a gap in my gaming knowledge I'm really satisfied and it's great to finally be able to step back and see the full evolution of this series. It plays really well and looks and sounds wonderful, and with the fast loading times and frame rate it truly felt next-gen.
On the downside, it felt disappointingly short. I finished it at just over 20 hours with a melee character. In the past I've usually hit 50-60 hours or more on my first playthroughs of Souls games. While some of the levels did feel challenging, the bosses (with one exception) felt trivially easy and some of the later levels were literally just a short, empty corridor leading to the next boss fight. It didn't really feel like there were that many secrets or shortcuts to be found. I guess some are hidden behind the world/character tendency mechanics but I didn't like those at all, they just incentivised me to keep committing suicide in the nexus which felt really dumb. And item burden can jump in the fucking sea.
Overall I'm really grateful for the experience and will definitely play it again at some point, but for me it ranks well below DS1, DS3 and Bloodborne. I know it's unfair to compare them, as the later games had so much to build upon. Still, I just can't help feeling a bit underwhelmed, and it just makes me wish I'd played the original a decade ago. -

Registered 16 years ago@Nanocrystal Agree with all of that. To me, it comes across as the rough draft for a whole genre. Fascinating, of historic significance... but not as good as what would come later.
Though I'd probably take it over Nioh 2, which I'm now in the back end of. -

Registered 13 years agoI finished this a month or so ago, spent a few hours messing about in NG+, spent another few hours with a different build, and then moved on, happy that I'd got my fill. But now this mention of the world tendency and secrets/shortcuts has got me wondering. Can someone spoiler the things you can unlock with the various tendencies? Just briefly

Registered 11 years agoIt is the shortest game of the lot for sure but it's the first one and it's difficult not to compare it to larger souls games.
But I don't like comparing souls games. I treat them as individual adventures to soak up on their own.
Basically if you look at the comments throughout what normally happens is that the people that played demon's first generally allocate a special part of themselves for the love of it, regardless of rough edges, short levels etc.
If you come to it from the back of dark souls or any other, it's a bit jarring. -

It's rumoured that if someone stands in front of a mirror and whispers the phrase, "DS2 is shit," 5 times they get backstabbed in their sleep. -
I did 1-1 as Magician but then started another slot as Royal and the recharging MP is awesome, think that may be the way to go....
