Inspired by the blood pressure rising posts of our resident rager. Just wondered what games get you raging. Past or present? Could it be a gun toting enemy? An unsurmountable boss? An unrealistic requirement for an achievement? Do tell. |

Registered 9 years agoOpen-world games with maps filled to the brim with dozens and dozens of icons, most of them "challenges" that have no purpose aside from adding padding onto games that are already far too bloated. I know that I don't have to do them, but the OCD commands me, and eventually I just burn out altogether.
It's not really a rage though, more of a simmering anger culminating in disappointment. -

Registered 8 years agoNot so much the game in its entirety, as it's generally well balanced, but fucking Gill from Street Fighter 3.
I'm not one for getting all shouty or throwing controllers about, but I had to leave the house for a bit to calm down after losing to the cunt for the 1000th time. -
I remember back in day getting really fucked off with trying to beat M.Bison with Zangief on snes SFII. I was shit with the big guy, so getting fucking spammed with that double kick and slide used to really make me pad bite. -
I used to rage about games where I hit a brick wall and couldn't proceed, fighting games like Tekken really brought out the worst in me so I stopped buying them.
More modern examples would be MPFPSs like Battlefield where I repeatedly get owned by another player, or just lack of my own skills. Not into them anymore.
Now, if a game annoys me I just sigh and play something else. Oh and I also play much fewer games that are (twitch) skill based or with a linear progression path - open ended sims can't really piss you off as you're not chasing high scores or try to beat a end level boss.

Registered 18 years agoGenerally boss battles that have you jumping through hoops to cause the tiniest amount of damage.
And platforming where you need pixel perfect timing. -

I think the games that are more rage inducing for me are those where you don't really enjoy the gameplay of the moment but want to see what's next.
I go through my retro collection now and then, and in many of those I can't even get past the first level now.
That would've set me off before alright, plus back then I didn't have a lot of alternatives so would've had to stick with them until completion (or destruction).
What can still really make me angry (relatively speaking) are technical issues - CTD without saving substantial progress, or performance issues that are seemingly random and distract from the game - unfortunately Resident Evil 2 Remake suffers from the latter (random freezes which put me off a second playthrough now).

Registered 8 years agoRemember that guy posted briefly who raged at every game he was shit at was broken on a fundamental level? He made Fuzzy seem cool, calm and collected.
Him getting awfully defensive and abusive at people trying to give him tips in the Dark Souls thread leading to a ban. I think he even threw some shade Quaddy or Ror's way.
Fallout 4 on normal was too difficult for him. I'm no gaming God, but fucking hell. -

I cant play either online anymore. Guess its more my lack of skill but getting either twatted 7-0 or losing to an injury time wonder goal would fucking give me heart murmurs.

Registered 2 years agoThe best was the guy who said Half-life 2 was broken and had to use God mode to get across the acid river.
Then someone asked if he'd seen the boat.
Then he quit. -

Final bosses in old school SNK fighting games. They are usually massively over-powered and combo you to death in seconds. -
