    20 press ups in one go is a fairly good starting point. I have never managed more than 37 reps in one set right now I would probably manage 17 or 18.

    It's all about technique. It's very easy to cheat with press ups but they suddenly become a lot harder when you do them properly. I used to think I could do loads (70-80 odd) but then as soon as I pulled my arms into my sides and did a proper full range of motion, that almost halved. Great exercise though!

    Also depends on what you're wanting to work. Arms tight in will work your triceps more while out wider (which are easier) will work your chest more.

    I love press ups unfortunately my delts are so fooked I can barely do any see the same for flat bench when anything over 80kgs (0olympic bar included) isn't happening. Incline Bench is better at least.

    Remember to do 5 minutes just to warm up first. I went in cold and something hurt in my left arm after 3 so had to stop.

    Did 5 mins warm up, just some basic stretches and arm swings.

    Couldn't manage 20 in one go, so did 2 sets of 10 with 30 secs in between.

    This looks super-tough if you have to do the press-ups in one session.

    I've been doing them since the start of lock-down and don't think I can do more than 30, so I'll fail after day 3.

    I am a sucker for proper technique though, so arguably I could do a higher volume if I up my tempo and relax my form.

    @Blakester If the object is to get to 100 by day 30 and you can do 20 on day one (1/5th) I see no reason why it shouldn't be doable?

    I dunno, it ramps up extremely fast. I can do around 50 at the minute but I don't expect to be able to do 100 without any breaks any time soon. But that's what makes it a challenge I guess. The close grip push ups are where things get interesting, they fucking sting.

    It's not day one for him though if he's been doing them since the start of lockdown. It's more like day 60.

    Is it actually sensible to attempt something like this without any recovery days factored in?

    I'm not pretending to know either way but I was always under the impression that you needed the recovery time to prevent injuries.

    I did one of these a few years ago, was surprised at how quickly I improved. Although it wasn't as brutal as this. I got up to 50 or so fairly quickly.

    I really wouldn't do this if you're not already very good at push-ups. You're asking to fuck yourself up. Not least because there's precisely zero recovery built into the program.

    It really is. Especially given most people do pushups with shit form at the best of times.

    The other one posted in the musings thread is a far more sensible setup.
