Registered 20 years agoI've used a Razer Diamondback for quite a while now and have to say I am very pleased with it. Some people say it's uncomfortable, to small etc but it's quite perfect for me. I prefer to control a mouse with only my fingers and not the "whole palm".
The only downside to the razer are the small side buttons.. On the thumb side they work ok but they are nearly impossible to use/reach comfortably on the other side. -

Registered 20 years agoOr, for a slightly cheaper 1600 dpi alternative, Saitek's Gaming Mouse ain't a bad piece of kit at all (just don't install the software that comes with it). At just over £25 that ain't bad. -

Registered 18 years agoThe MX510 is an absolute bargain. It fits extremely well in your hand, the buttons (all 8 of 'em) are exellent, and the responsiveness/accuracy is enough for all but the most demanding CS/Q3-freeks. Best mouse I've ever tried, and made me approx. 684% 1337'er at BF2. -

The new updated MX518 is even better. It's "gaming grade", apprently. -

Registered 18 years agoThere is (almost) always "something better". Dunno how the MX518 costs, but I don't think I've ever had better value for money on a PC product, than the MX510. -

Registered 17 years agoI just stick with a corded Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. The extra buttons are well placed, and it's just very nice and comfortable to hold. It's served me well but after dropping it too many times (moving it from place to play at LANs and all that) the left click is a little worn.

Registered 18 years agoBest I've seen for us devil worshipping lefties is the Logitech MX310. 800dpi, 6 buttons (although one is only for use in windows, cant seem to map it in BF2). -

Neither. I use the G5 version 1, and couldn't be happier.
Others, like Dirtbox, prefer the Razers though. I find those to be too light for me, but they are still probably exellent mice if you prefer light mice. -

Never got on with the Razer's, the flat shape feels odd, not as natural as Logitech's range. -

Registered 20 years agoIs there any way to overclock a mouse? I've got it set as fast as it will go in Windows but I'd love it if it'd go even faster, if only for the reactions of the people that use my computer at work, but mainly to save my wrist a bit of effort. -

Registered 15 years agoSure thing man, basically they work faster the slicker the surface they are on. So you need to get some oil or fat, linseed oil is good but pure sunflower oil will do or just lard. Rub that into the mouse mat, or in a thin film on your Mousing Surface. That should speed things up nicely. -

Registered 15 years agoI switched from an Intellimouse to a G7.
Pros: The better shape and increased weight were nice. The thumb button is good, and the DPI switch is handy for emergency speed adjustment.
Cons: I miss the extra side buttons. The middle button is safer to press from the front, rather than the top, to avoid rolling. The side scrolling is a little too fiddly for gaming.
The software is ok, but I've had mixed success with getting the per-application mapping working. It's mostly best at remembering what DPI I used last between battery swaps, and reminding me that I'm running low on juice.
I probably won't get another wireless mouse until they sort out this bandwidth clashing; the G7 likes to interfere with my network a little too frequently for my liking. -

Logitech software seems fine to me, though I've only ever installed it for a G7 wireless mouse and never bothered with any profile settings or whatnot. It's not a necessity.
I also read today that you get a tiny bit less lag using a USB to PS/2 adapter on mice, and I'd never heard that before.
Even if there is a difference I doubt very much it would be noticeable. I just use a PS/2 adapter to save taking up a USB port.

Registered 17 years agoI really wouldn't worry, every other review rates the G5 as one of the best mice available. I've got an MX518 and several G5, prefer the G5 in every respect. I think that guy takes things way too seriously. -
It's slightly improved, still quite hard to press that middle button.
