Greetings, EG Hive Mind! Being fashionably late as always, I've just got round to ordering a Switch, and it arrives on Saturday. Just need some advice on what to pick up to go with it in terms of accessories and games. The console comes with a download code for Animal Crossing, which is what I was buying it for, and I've also picked up Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart and Octopath Traveler. Accessory wise I went for a Pro Controller and a pair of the JoyCon Wheel accessories for Karting. Any other games that are must have? I'm not much of a one for fighting so I've skipped stuff like Bayonetta, Diablo. I'm not a Pokemon / Fortnite fan either. Things I'm wondering about: Zelda - Breath of the Wild. The last Zelda game I played was a Link to the Past on SNES, and while BOTW looks like it could be interesting, it also looks like it could take about 3 years to finish. Luigi's Mansion 3. Played the original on GC and liked it, so this is a possible. Just had a look at EG's suggestions, and Splatoon 2, Into The Breach and Astral Chain are standing out. Any thoughts? And are there any other accessories that are worth picking up? Cheers! Boo Edited by boo at 20:42:41 26-05-2020 |

Registered 9 years agoIf you want to buy digital, you can usually get games at shopto or cdkeys for at least a tenner below RRP.
Nintendo have sales every so often but discounts don't usually go beyond 33% off for 1st party stuff.
BOTW is unmissable IMO, a true masterpiece.
If you're interested in NES/SNES games, they're part of the online subscription and nicely implemented.
If you like JRPGs, the imminent remake of Xenoblade Chronciles is a must. -

Registered 15 years agoBotW is the best game on the system (perhaps any system) and is well well worth the time investment. It’s not really that big either. -

Registered 17 years agoSplatoon 2 is a grower. It's been sat around since Christmas and it's really been a hit these last few weeks. Art direction is superb.
Lonely mountain downhill caught me by surprise. It's one of my most played games. -

I haven't needed any accessories except a case and a big memory card. -

Registered 8 years agoAs others have said, BOTW is the stand out game on the Switch. Fast Racing Neo is pretty cool. It presents quite a challenge at time’s. -

Registered 15 years agoI think it’s actually the law that if you have a Switch you need to own Zelda.
Luigis Mansion 3 didn’t really do it for me. At its peak it’s wonderful and funny, but too often I found it quite frustrating.

Registered 17 years agoOk, I can get on board with Zelda.
Thanks for the suggestions - two more questions if I may.
Any idea if consoles ship with a memory card or whether I'll need to buy one?
On the Animal Crossing front (and I will go and read some reviews), can multiple players have villages? Mrs Boo does not do videogames but she loved AC on the Cube. Will she be able to set her own village / island up? Separate memory card maybe?

Registered 14 years agoActually I think if you own a Switch, but don't get BotW, the Nintendo police turn up at your house and take it from you. -

Registered 14 years agoYes, get a good size SD Card, as the internal memory will vanish in no time. No it doesn't come with one. -

Registered 1 year agoYes will take a 256...... I have the 128gb and find that is plenty. Indie games ain't that big really and 1st party games I only usually play them once, once finished then delete if need more space. -

Registered 17 years agoCheers. Just read the EG article (and all the comments) about 'one island per switch' and the whole 'only the primary resident can progress things'.
Mrs Boo and I will have to have a serious discussion before we fire it up... -

We play local, so we both live on the same Island. She plays it loads more than me though...

Registered 14 years agoI have a 400gb card in mine. A memory card is essential unless you're only buying physical. Screen protector, too.
A carry case for the console and games can be good to have. -

Anyone got any tips for a good screen protector?
