I'm sure we had a thread for this but the search sucks. Anyways, this is released on Friday and it's been great watching the developer and community come together to build something that they care about it. I hope it's a success and we get more C&C remasters. Welcome back Commander! |

Registered 16 years agoReally looking forward to this although I was hoping for some reviews before actually buying it. -

Registered 15 years agoI downloaded the C&C collection recently and the first C&C and Red Alert are fairly clunky by modern standards. Will they be adding ant quality of life improvements like unit queueing or is just the sprites? -

Registered 16 years agoI'd want to know there are some serious UI improvements in there before buying this. I know it's unfair - different developer and all - but the shitshow of the Warcraft 3 remaster has made me nervous about this one. -

That was one thing they talked about in the first trailer.

It sounds like the C&C community are a bit more progressive than the Blizzard ones at least. -

Registered 16 years ago@Rogueywon They've been pretty up front throughout its development about its direction etc. They also used the community to help pull together various bits and pieces and some of the old development team came back. The video on them finding old film tapes of the FMV sequences is worth a watch. -

Registered 17 years agoPreload is up on Steam for those already purchased.
But, holy moly, install footprints of 30 and 40 megabytes (base games) have suddenly translated into 18.1 gig. I know soundtrack and FMV were all run from disc, but still... just not sure I was expecting that file size. -

Registered 14 years agoHehe, probably 18 gig of video and 0.1 gig of game data. -

Modern game development frameworks come with a lot of bloat I guess. Still, that's bigger than Skyrim on Switch.

Registered 16 years agoOk, the video that plays when you start up C&C for the first time, aping the old DOS installer (which was itself neat back in the day) is a very cute little touch. -

Registered 5 years agoYeah, the amount of work they’ve put into this is really impressive. It’s textbook how a classic remaster should be done.
Shame the physical limited edition is delayed, but I can last a few months without the tat. -

Registered 18 years agoOooo this is tempting. Not usually one for remasters but I have a real soft spot for the original and RA. -

Registered 17 years agoYeah, the riff on the old DOS installer was very cool. I loved that they continued to make that a thing all the way through to Red Alert 2.
It's also kicking my arse. I chose a real tough mission for GDI 4

Registered 5 years agoIt’s surprising how playable it still is with just a few control tweaks. Considering how much the RTS genre moved on after it, you’d think it would feel painful, but nope, fast, breezy and enjoyable. -

Registered 16 years agoHit a scripting bug at the end of Nod 6C that meant I had to replay the mission. That was annoying, but pretty sure the same bug was in the original. -

Registered 5 years agoI’m kinda hoping the mod community will revive Sole Survivor. It was crazy ahead of its time, pretty much a MOBA/Battle Royale hybrid before either of them were a thing. -

Registered 12 years agoI really am tempted. Loved the shit out of Red Alert. Is the remaster good then? Not another WC3 disaster?

Registered 16 years ago@Dgzter It's a good remaster. Not a WC3 fuckup. It's still C&C under the hood, with a bunch of visual and quality of life improvements, but it's a nice updating of it.
Other than that scripting bug I hit, my one gripe is that the quality of the cutscene upgrades is erratic. Some look great now, while some look barely improved. -

Registered 16 years ago@challenge_hanukkah Warcraft 3 - the recent remaster was a dumpster fire that not only makes the game worse in many ways, but was also used to make the original’s multiplayer unusable.
Apparently a lot of the work on it was outsourced to a trash tier Chinese studio. -

Registered 16 years ago@Rogueywon The video issues are due to the orignal recordings either being lost or destroyed. They used some AI programme to try and get them into a half decent state. -

Registered 16 years agoThis is sooo good and exactly how a remaster should be done. It doesn't mess with the original formula and doesn't go over the top with upgrade visuals. I feel like I'm a 15 year old kid again. -

Anyone tried multiplayer? -
Ordered, love supporting things like this. Very much looking forward to having a crack. Must finish Xcom 2 first however
