| Early rumours, but just did a quick google and apparantly it includes a single player. Hopefully it's not just a fancy tutorial for the multiplayer like in battlefield. |

Registered 16 years agoI'm not going to let myself get my hopes up for this. The beauty of the old X-Wing and TIE-Fighter games was that they were properly sim-my. You had all the power management stuff and the battles needed actual tactics.
We all know there's no way any modern Star Wars starfighter-based game is going to be anything other than lowest common denominator arcade stuff. -

Registered 14 years agoThe one thing that gives me some hope was the X-Wing VR game they had with Battlefront. It wasn't as simmy as the 90s games but you could still play with the settings and setup of the X-Wing so it was definitely in the ballpark.
To be honest I'd also take a Rogue style game as those were great too, though not if it's going to be multiplayer PvP focused. -

Registered 12 years agoBig fan of the old X-Wing/TIE Fighter games here. I can't see this being anywhere near as involved as those games were, sadly. I'm thinking this is going to be like the fighter battles in Battlefront 2. Blehh.
Hope I'm wrong, though! -

Registered 15 years agoDoes anyone remember the insanely complicated gamepad control scheme a Eurogamer Fortuner made up for a hypothetical console X-Wing game
Each button had about 5 functions to cover all the engine / shield management stuff. -

Include an asteroid field somewhere, capital ships, a junkyard, a factory, a death star... -

Registered 14 years ago@Rodney even better, the Windows 95 games didn't work without a gamepad. Even though you still needed to use the keyboard too, since no gamepad had enough buttons for everything. I bet this one will be more like Rogue Squadron.
Well, I don't mind, as long as they let me shoot down some rebel scum. If there's a campaign, no heel face turn, please. -

Registered 9 years agoPersonally, I'm not so interested in the sim-like title. My expectation, and hope, is for something similar to the Rogue Squadron games last seen on the Gamecube. Rogue Leader on the Gamecube is still a fantastic title, and we now have a further 3 movies to draw scenes and inspiration from (even if I wasn't a huge fan of the new trilogy, Force Awakens excepted). -

Registered 8 years agoI have very low expectations and believe it will be something that involves 'you and your friends' TM. I'd love to be wrong. -

I doubt they'd go back to loot boxes after that Battlefront debacle. But I wouldn't be surprised if it involved a battle pass of some sorts if it a mp only game.

Registered 17 years agoWould be happy with something like Rogue Squadron that was on the N64.
Whatever direction they go in, so long as they don’t fuck it up, I’ll be happy. It’s going to sound incredible. Even they can’t fuck up the John Williams score and the Ben Burt sound effects.
Let’s hope that the Force is strong with this one.
Edit: 3pm for the trailer. It better not be a cinematic only!

The engine/weapon/shield management added so much to the old Games.. -

Registered 14 years agoYeah, I don't think you need to go full early-90s-use-the-whole-keyboard with it or anything. Elite is perfectly playable on a controller and has a decent amount of fiddling around with power pips and ship settings. -

A little less arcadey than SW:BFII though please. -

Registered 14 years agoThis will have HOTAS support.
This will have VR support.
This will be a modern successor to X-Wing vs TIE fighter.

Registered 20 years agoI am quite liking that announcement art. Very much a blend of the Original Trilogy art (image on the back of the 'Blue edition' chewing gum/card packs for those of a certain age) and the old Atari VCS artwork. -

Registered 8 years agoJust seen this blurb
'It features a single-player campaign, but the main focus for Squadrons is on the multiplayer. The idea is to get players fighting against each other in team battles featuring iconic Star Wars vessels.'

I certainly hope not, I mean we basically have that already with Battlefront 2. The flying in that is great fun, but very arcadey/Rogue Squadron like, and has tons of multiplayer options (lots of ships, card choices, modes, etc.).

I guess we'll see how they can differentiate that from whatever this will be. -

Ahhh brilliant, a trailer that said nothing. I'm kinda bored by that shit tbh.
