I guess they really weren't ready to reveal the game, just a cinematics trailer by the looks of things. Basically just 5v5 nonsense as suggested. Bah.

No UI info... Prerendered footage looks like a SW:BFII spinoff.

Star Wars: Squadrons releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 2nd October, and will be playable via VR on both PlayStation 4 and PC at launch. And, just to make things even better, there's cross-play support: so now you can battle for the future of the galaxy with all your friends.

Change it for this site now its up.

So it's a MOBA. I thought they were dead. :/

I really don't get it, you literally have no reason to wait; you can play this in Battlefront 2 already. And if you want more fun you can play ground forces multiplayer, and a decent single player story too! What is EA smoking?

Squadrons is developed by Motive Studios in association with Lucasfilm, and it will feature a dedicated single-player mode, and multiple multiplayer modes with no microtransactions.
Give it credit where its due

Hum, I'll keep an open mind on it.

First person and VR sounds good.
X-Wing lady does talk about pushing power to engines etc.
Does include a story of some sort.

Edit: in fact shifting power around is confirmed at least:

Squadrons will feature "rich" cosmetic and game-affecting customization options. Players will earn these cosmetics through gameplay exclusively, EA said. That's an important distinction to make, in part because Star Wars: Battlefront II was heavily criticised for its microtransactions.

Players will unlock new weapons, hulls, engines, and shields as they rank up. The cosmetic items, meanwhile, can be applied to your cockpit and ship exterior, while you can also change the look of your fighter pilot.

We had the shield/maneuverability power balance in Battlefront, but I think it was changed during development and didnít ship that way. May be wrong though.

While Iím not going to talk about Squadrons, itís not the same as Battlefront so donít base opinions on that.

Hummm. That's a bit concerning, been a noobie is enough of a problem in multiplayer without being literally outgunned by your opponents on top of that.

Trailer was a bit disappointing, although I'm sure I'll end up giving it a go when it's released. It's a pity Xbox won't support VR any time soon.

Don't need to imagine. Already done it with the free Battlefront VR mission. And it was good. Jism everywhere at the moment.

Yeah it's amazing, I've been hoping for a full game ever since. My stomach is fine with stuff like that.

Why should we trust EA when it claims no microtransactions.

At best the claim will be made on some dubious semantic distinction, or the microtransactions will be patched in overtime in some form.

Do these trailers with no gameplay actually work from a marketing perspective

I suppose I'm aware of the Game now but I was aware of it from it being announced.

After whatching that trailer I can't say that I'm any more or less likely to buy the game because it didn't tell me anything about it.

I'm not 12. It doesn't build anticipation. It just wastes my time.

Focus on multiplayer and deep customisation doesn't sound great though.

This is my suspicion - the marketing quote only calls out earning cosmetics through gameplay, and very specifically distinguishes them from weapons and what not.

Nothing in the press release mentions anything about no microtransactions, it was from a website (Gamespot?). The release states:
Star Wars: Squadrons will offer rich cosmetic and gameplay customization options with rewards and bonuses that are earned solely through gameplay.
Itís basically saying Ďno loot boxes, no paying-for-powerí. As for a reason to believe it, they stated the same with NFS Heat. Heat has added a time-saver MT (shows all the collectibles on the map) and I could see them doing the same somehow here (timesavers have been around in games for years before loot boxes became a thing), but you know exactly what youíre paying for and youíll never need it if you play the game, thereís no advantage to having it.

Weirdly, a lot of people donít like playing their games, or donít have the time to, I guess.

I'm optimistic for no real reason. This is EA. Really wanted something resembling Rogue Squadron but I'll give it a go. Looking forward to the gameplay reveal. That should be a good indication of what this is.
