Looked okay bit I was expecting a bit more graphically tbh. Hopefully it's an earlier build or whatever.
Wonder if it's hampered in that regard by being a cross-gen game.

Yeah it seems so. It's very easy to compare that dungeony bit coming off of Demons Souls. Straight away the brickwork stands out as way more gamey.

Everything upstairs seemed very clean by design as well which I don't think helped the tone or atmosphere much. Although it's probably unfair judging that based on a 15 minute slice.

I fail to see the appeal of the demo - it's nothing to write home about graphically, and you're basically running around looking for a few keys.

It's pretty much how the RE7 demo operated. Just lets you walk around a bit, get an idea for how the game looks and feels without giving a lot away. That had a few different endings IIRC, so maybe players will discover a few secrets over the next day or so.

I quite liked the demo, but I like a nice atmospheric walking simulator so it's very much my kind of thing. I skipped 7 so might have to give that a look now.

7 is the best proper RE game since RE2.

RE4 is an action game :)

I think First Person can work really well for horror games, especially in the Penumbra/Amnesia mold.

In terms of RE, weirdly the one I struggle most with returning to, due to the camera, is 4. I find it borderline unplayable these days.
I played it on PS3 some years ago and I don't remember having problems with the camera at all. Which reminds me, I need to get back to it. I got stuck on the falling cage room in the castle and left it by the side.
That's where I abandoned RE4 on the Gamecube, and never picked it up again. I used to speedrun RE0, 1, and 2, but never felt the love for 4 and haven't been back to the franchise since other than the awful RE5 demo.

Maybe I should give RE4 another go, or is it worth dropping straight into RE7 given it was in PS+?

I can't wait for this tbh. One of the gaming highlights in the calendar for sure. The criticisms about the ship and mines levelled at 7 in this thread are completely fair, but I happily played through them. The whole series is a big mix of ideas and jankiness - it's the Capcom way. Some of it is mediocre, some fails horrendously (6...) but most of the series is great popcorn gaming.

I enjoyed the demo, is clearly far from the full experience, but I found it suitably creepy and thought change from dungeon to the opulence in the mansion very intimidating.

Also made me jump a couple of times which these games dont usually manage to do unless I get absorbed in it. So that says something for the atmosphere.

I can’t say it made me jump which I guess it was probably designed to do. I certainly remember jumping in 7 a few times, one of which I’d defy anyone to not have jumped at 😉 so I’m sure they’ll pop some good ones in.

7 made me shat in my pants a good number of times. I tried to replay it VR and thought I was going to have a heart attack.

Yeah it drank from the exact same well as 7. So I spent 99% of the demo waiting for the jump scare from the stalky thing, and when it came it fell a bit flat as the enemy particle effect spawned in front of me for a few seconds first so it lost the impact.

I certainly hope it's only a small portion of the game this time. I'm a bit fed up of tiptoeing around the locked up building trying to collect keys while the big, practically invincible twat thumps around following me.

Yep. 7 was horrendous, in a good way. No chance I was playing that in VR. It would be ruinous.

Yeah I wouldn't have the bottle to even try 7 in VR. I'm far too jumpy. It was bad enough playing through the farmhouse on a TV I could easily break away from.

Resi 7 in VR was one of my greatest gaming experiences in 25 years+ of gaming......yea, it was absolutely nerve shredding, but it was also one of the most real and immersive experiences I’ve had.

It’s still great if you don’t play it in VR, but if you have PSVR you owe it to yourself to try it.

Yeah Resi 7 in VR is up there for me in all time great gaming experiences and my second favourite after the first. The first time through not knowing what was coming was actually scary. Nothing else has come close in terms of immersive horror experiences.

Including this demo, which was rubbish.

I might actually faff about with my psvr and set it up just for R7.

I hate horror films and games, don't enjoy them one bit, but the compliments you're paying it in VR mean I should probably man up and play a couple hours.

Then I'll wuss out and never play it again.

So weird that there’s people who didn’t recognise RE4 is the best game ever. I’ll still replay it now and then, though hoping for a full RE2 style remake.

It's in my top 10 games of all time, but at the same time it's clunky as fuck and the last time I tried playing it I give up before I got to the lake scene.

Stuff like Super Metroid and Metroid Prime are still as playable today as they were when I first played them... RE4 is just clunk incarnate.

I think its a good game. I just have so much love for the Racoon City arc and then 7 feels like such a strong return to 1s vibe.

Fighting giant insect monks with a catapult and midget Napoleon in his haunted castle just has a different thing going on and feels a bit gamey in comparison.

4 is a classic, would like to see a Res 2 style remake. Played through the Maiden demo and it’s ok, starts off creepy enough but the ‘baddie’ you encounter is rubbish and I did think not another big house is a Res game! Hoping for a lot more village and a lot less house.

Res4 is rumoured to be coming to VR for the Quest from the Capcom hack last year.

I'm a bit wary of a Resi 4 REmake. What I love about the game is that it's just set piece after set piece. Nothing else really and I love them all.
Following the 2&3 remakes (which I've enjoyed immensely), I dread to think what would be cut.

    More than anything I’d like a 1 remake in the 2 & 3 style.
