My first guess would be that the castle would be very different. Probably swapping the escort/sniper section for a bit where you play as her evading the monks instead. At least one boss might go too. And everything after the castle would be shorter. |

I agree. 4 is unexpectedly epic in scope and a graphical makeover would probably result in a lesser game over all just due to budget. There are changes I’d be fine with - eg cut out any quick time events you like - but if I sat down to decide what section to cut out, I doubt I could cut any of it. Whenever I play I’m like “oh THIS bit!”
I'm a bit wary of a Resi 4 REmake. What I love about the game is that it's just set piece after set piece. Nothing else really and I love them all.
Following the 2&3 remakes (which I've enjoyed immensely), I dread to think what would be cut.
I reckon they could even expand parts. That first time with the invisible bugs was terrifying but subsequent plays it’s a doddle. Change that up and make it scary again. Maybe introduce some randomness to enemy spawns so replays aren’t robbed of spontaneity and tension. I just walk around gunning down every invisible bug before they even activate now. -

Registered 12 years agoI'd love a 4 remake, but I'm already getting awful visions of them having Dr. Salvador and a Regenerator following you around for over half the game. -

Never understood the love for 4 either, but I was late to the party and didn't try it until the wii.
Depending how you count them 4 might not even make my top five favourite Resi games
As for 8, it still creeped me out and took about half an hour as I played it with headphones and am a massive fanny, waiting for the inevitable jump scares. It's a funny turn to take Resi in. I still think they should have just called 7 "Resident Evil" and rebooted it. It was scary as shit and got to me duento the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibes- but it didn't feel like a continuation of the numerical Resi series. This demo even less so.
I appreciate them trying new things and going in another direction but it should be in a reboot, or another series altogether. I was less creeped out when you start getting the voices talking to you and the opulent vampire ladies doesn't have the same factor as some psycho chasing you through a grotty house. I found the women vamps in the Netflix Castlevania creepier.
Will still give it a shot as I appreciate what they're doing.

More than anything I’d like a 1 remake in the 2 & 3 style. -

Registered 6 years agoThe mansion is so much more claustrophobic than the RPD building, it’d be scary as hell doing RE1 in the style of 2 or 7.
I still think the version in the Origins Collection holds up though.
I get the feeling the vampires and werewolves in 8 will be the result of the virus being ancient and endemic in the region so its mutations are written into folklore. Like how in 7 it created a 1970s backwoods horror piece. -

Registered 12 years agoYeah it was genuinely interesting and intriguing in 7 until they just absolutely had to tie it into a wider universe that totally jumped the shark somewhere between 5 and 6.
I'm sure they'll somehow manage to shoehorn an ancient , hidden arm of Umbrella in there somehow if they can. -

I loved 4, but it's definitely a departure from the old resi style that I loved. It's been diluted a lot over replay's over the years, but the first time you get to the village in 4 and it kicks off....some of the tensest few minutes of gaming I've had. -

Haha I remember running about in a mad panic when I first heard the chainsaw. -

Registered 12 years agoDon't get me wrong, I'm one of the 9 people in the world who fucking loved both 5 and 6. It started really hitting the skids during the Revelations games, especially the second one.
But if you're gonna do a reboot, do a reboot. There would have been nothing wrong with a new story in a shared universe, but turning the Baker compound into the BOW freak of the week during the second half was a big misstep. -

Registered 16 years agoI really enjoyed 5. 6 was just too much of everything.
And, yes, I did roll my eyes when it went full RE. The farm and the story are great until, again, you get to the ship and you just think 'ugh, here we go'.
Until that point, they did a great job of resetting and I dont think anyone would have complained if the story had just been 'A vial of goo fell out a plane and everyone went crazy'. Not everything has to tie into the 'main' story.
But then they bust out all that Blue Umbrella/Connections nonsense and suddenly its lore snare and back to checking wikis again. -

Registered 12 years agoI have to admit, if they'd stopped that shit at the boat I still would have been fully on board (tee hee). Make Mia's group and Eveline the focus of a trilogy or whatever separate from the Raccoon City group. But from the caves and beyond, it became clear they were shoehorning it into the global biowarfare pap and it lost its intrigue and mystique. Then as if the dead horse didn't need kicking any further, they give Chris his own DLC. -

Registered 13 years agoI fucking loved #5, one of my all time favourite games. The controls were just sublime and it was incredibly fun to play
#6 was garbage in comparison, they ruined the controls, had very unclear objectives at times. I was just glad to get through it. For years I just started Leon's campaign and gave up after a few hours, eventually I gritted my teeth and got it done. A terrible game and a miserable experience -

Registered 12 years agoThere are bits of RE6 that are enjoyable. Most of Leon's campaign was a pretty nice callback to the old ones. Of course you have to balance that out with vehicle sections that got their handling model from Outrun and zombies flying fighter jets. -

Registered 8 years agoEurgh, 6. The game that was meant to please every kind of Resi fan by having specific campaigns to please everyone but ended up annoying everyone. Even coming from Resi 4 and 5 with its static movement it still feels far clunkier than both of them. Annoying QTEs and a proper fiddly control scheme. I couldn't even stomach finishing it, think I played around 5 to 6 hours overall on 360 and PC. Still shit. -

Registered 8 years agoI tried to have a playthrough of 6 a couple of months ago. Made it 2/3rds through Leons's campaign and just couldn't continue. I dropped it down to easy as well just to get through it but it's a fucking mental game. It's like a toddler just screaming in your face for hours on end. The masochistic part of me does want to do the whole game just to see what else it has in store. -

Registered 12 years agoIn fairness, I don't think I'd ever go through it all on my own. Maybe the Leon part. It was a really good laugh in co-op though, although I think the ratio of laughing at it rather than with it would raise some questions.
If you want a reaaaallllllly bad RE game, look no further than Revelations 2. Fuck me that was an abomination. -

Registered 8 years agoI actually bought it when it came out to co-op with my brother in Australia as we really enjoyed doing that with RE5. Various commitments etc meant we couldn't keep going so binned it off. Haven't played it since then and thought "wonder if it's worth going through it solo on easy". Turns out the answer is an emphatic "No".
Is Revelations 2 that bad? I've got it in my unplayed pile as saw it cheap after quite enjoying Revelations 1. Even though big chunks of 1 were a bit shit.

Registered 6 years agoI say it in every Resi thread but my head canon is 1, 2, 3, 7 as there’s a narrative thread which ties them together quite well with any cities being destroyed by orbital lasers or boulder punching or weird convoluted family histories.

I like both Revelations more than I like 5 or 6.
The asynchronous storytelling is a nice touch in Rev 2. And the cruiseliner in Rev 1 is a great Resi environment, especially for a handheld game.
