With so much working from home going to be a long term thing, I was thinking of buying a speaker. Specifically, this jabra. Cba with headphones on all day and these seem much more comfortable, especially for meetings that you're a bit passively involved in. Any of you guys using them? |
WFH Jabra Speaker/Mic thingy

Registered 15 years agoI’m using a B&O A1 which probably leans more toward music quality rather than calling, but works extremely well for the purpose you’re describing. -

Cool, thanks, I’ll take a look at that.

Registered 4 years agoI haven't used that one, but we use USB/Bluetooth portable Jabra 510 speakers in our offices at work and they're outstanding for both call clarity and build quality. -

The one I was looking at is the upgraded version of the 510. -

Registered 4 years agoWhile this thread is here (and making me miss the Jabras we have in the office which I obvs don't have at home), has anyone got any cheapo ways of joining online conferences with decent sound quality? I've resisted ditching the headset for the inbuilt laptop speakers because other people who do that sound like they're stuck in reverb hell, but I've been super tempted to buy a cheap Bluetooth speaker (Jabra solemate minis are £20 on eBay) and use that instead, but none of the reviews of these small speakers ever talk about call quality.

Registered 16 years agoPlease us a headset and not a speaker!!!
Speakers cut out the mic of the person talking when there's another sound that comes from someone else. Shit ones also don't catch it in time, cause sound loops that makes it harder for everyone to head.
It's really fucking annoying having to deal with a call that has more than one person using them.
Sound quality is also pretty poor by comparison, so you're harder to understand.
Use a headset, everyone else in the call will thank you for it.

I have a Porsche Design KEF wireless speaker that can be used for conf calls. I wouldn't dream of subjecting my workmates to the drop in sound clarity, cut-outs, and sound loop they all produce in varying quantities.

"Ohhh my ears get hot". Suck it up guys.
The Amazon Alexa can be set up to make and receive calls. with 7 microphones and noise cancellation in their basic dot, you might as well use that.

One of my colleagues is using the one I linked to and she always sounds great, the people who sound shit are the ones using the inbuilt laptop mikes.

Registered 4 years agoI'd agree with AB, Carlo. People who have a good conference speaker like a Jabra speak are indistinguishable from people wearing a properly setup headset. -

Registered 15 years agoI'm using the Jabra 510 at home now (company issued). Ideal for conferencing and very good sound quality (both ways).
Just don't use it for music

Thanks, the 710 is supposed to be much better for music but obviously won't be as good as the B&O one that Kalel mentioned.

Registered 20 years agoI have a Jabra 410 (cos it's the cheapest one) - does a perfectly serviceable job.
My ears aren't hot and no one has commented about audio issues. -

Registered 15 years agoMy logic was I’d rather have something that was good for music and perfectly acceptable for calls, rather than the other way round. But obviously some people might need the opposite logic. I will say though that I’ve been using the A1 all day every day for calls and everyone has said it’s absolutely fine. -

Sound for music was very good, and whilst I never tried using it for video conferencing it was excellent for hands free calls -

Are you sure?
Do you run a quick survey after every call? -
