Aaron Bastani was blaming it on Israeli thermobaric weapons within 15 minutes. Posts now deleted. Anyway, having seen the footage it’s kind of incredible how few deaths there have been, so far at least. You can see building just vanish. Awful. |

I imagine they'll go up a lot. Least I hope so for Tonka's sake. I've never seen him this animated.

Just looking at the explosion and the damage to the surrounding area, it's not far from a reasonable estimation. I think the toll is currently around 70 so maybe it wasn't as highly a populated area as it looks. Hopefully.

Registered 18 years agoIt may well be that high in time, but it's just illustrative of the bullshit and misinformation a lot of these pages trot out without knowing anything at all.
Edit: yes, being dockside it is apparently less densely populated.

Registered 19 years ago"Facts about this dangerous warehouse," Prime Minister Diab said, have been known for at least six years.
Seems like a fireworks factory. The mind boggles at the kinds of fireworks displays they have in Beirut if they're stocking that much explosive, you'd think that would be the last thing they want to chill out with.
Diab added that the warehouse had been storing an estimated 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, according to an account by President Michel Aoun. -

Registered 20 years agoTrump is saying his generals told him it was a bomb and he reckons it was possibly an attack
If there are terrorists who can build a bomb that out outperforms anything in the the non-nuclear arsenal by a factor of ten it might be worth drawing up the articles of surrender already. -

Registered 14 years agoI think I might keel over if Trump ever said "We're going to wait until the facts are established" or "I'd like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims" .

Goodness, this happens to be one of the places I've visited. Not cool to have to see that. All the best to those affected
Edit: that may have come across a bit heartless (and entirely unintentionally). I'm just not sure what to say really. I should probably shut up

Another classic Trump. I bet those generals (if there are any) would have preferred if he kept that speculation to himself.

I imagine it being a bomb/attack was just on the long list of possibilities that were presented to him, but it's the only one he remembered.
