Registered 15 years ago@ZuluHero I was literally coming on here to say it feels like a 360 game. Not even a good one.
I quite liked it yesterday but it’s got very old very quick, the combat just isn’t responsive and punchy enough and is outright bad when facing multiple opponents.
Nevermind. Won’t be buying it now. -

You say that but the only reason people put hundreds of hours into Destiny is because the core combat loot is legit satisfying despite having repetitive tasks, this is not.

Even though I won’t stick with it long term, I definitely don’t hate it.
This is the latest “it’s cool to hate it” game.
It’s clear that Square Enix wanted a Destiny/The Division-type game with The Avengers in it, and that’s what they’ve made.
The same people who play and love those games will eat this up and lose hundreds of hours in it, where as I play those games once through and I’m done, so I can’t see this game being any different.
The reason Destiny and The Division were (are) both so popular is because their gameplay loops are both enjoyable.
Avengers is highly repetitive and button mashy, which is why it won’t get into that echelon of games....I still think millions will put hundreds of hours into it though. -

I don't think I've ever seen someone so overly optimistic veering into madness. Millions? Putting hundreds of hours into a multiplayer that consists of defeating waves of enemies and standing on a glowing rectangle? Really?

Registered 3 years agoTried the beta..it feels weird to have health bars to deal with on some people like Hulk and Thor.
Captain America was probably the most satisfying to play, feels wise. -

Registered 10 years agoI don’t think a “beefy pc” will change up the tired gameplay and button mashing, but yeah it may well feel a whole lot smoother. I didn’t really have an issue with the fr on pro or graphics in general anyway. It’s just dull to play (for me). There may possibly be some nuance to combat but it does a terrible job of showing it and little incentive to explore it (so far).
Maybe I need to get past hulk and ms fantastic, because it’s really uninspiring so far and going from the opening mission iron man isn’t much better. Black widow MIGHT be a bit more fun. -

Registered 6 years agoJust read a hands on of the full game on IGN and they're saying Spiderman is a real game changer apparently. Saying the combo system with him makes it feel like Ninja Garden. And they tried the Virgin media suits and apparently they add 18 different combos to each character. Really starting to look forward to it now. -

Registered 1 year agoI was a bit positive about performance on a one X previously. Spot on in story missions, but as soon as you drift into the multiplayer part it just goes to absolute shit. Pretty sure I could count the frames at some points.
Probably something I'd pick up after the PS5 launches if it's going for a tenner, but it's not something I'm rushing out to buy this gen.
Is it cross save ala Destiny 2?.. -

This game will sell millions of copies and a lot of those people will put hundreds of hours into it.
That’s really not as wild of a statement as you think it is. -

Registered 16 years agoI feel like they've built a decent foundation to build on. It sort of reminds me of Dynasty Warriors in that difficulty level changes how it feels, with button mashing working on lower difficulties but getting ineffective the higher you crank it up.
For example, I found counters a bit tricky at first because each hero has a different one used in a different way. Black Widow's counter actually closes distance with a single targeted enemy, whilst Iron Man's counter has some pushback and breaks enemies meaning you actually want to be right in the fray, which means you're balancing that with backing off for ranged attacks. Ms Marvel relies on dodges at first but gets her own optional counters as upgrade which also includes a decent counter-attack none of the other heroes have. Hulk doesn't have a counter in the same way as he's more about managing rage properly so you're using rage to shrug off/heal from larger attacks.
I'm not saying it's the deepest game in the world, but there's plenty there to learn in the beta for those that enjoy it with just parts of the skill trees available. -

Each character has a different play style (Hunter/Warlock/Titan)
I'm struggling with these destiny-like comparisons and the derivative restrictive single player experience I had with it.
What am I missing?
Each character has a unique customisable skill tree (sub classes)
Each character has unique heroic attacks (Grenade/Melee/Super)
Missions are short repeatable runs with loot opportunities based on difficulty, with matchmaking (Strikes and Nightfalls)
Gear has rarity and random stats (More division/anthem in this regard)
There is a pay shop with cosmetics
There are daily challenges
There are collections that probably reward some unique item/title
Randoms in matchmaking are mostly idiots
As an ex long term Destiny player I see the analogy quite clearly. -

Registered 18 years ago@ZuluHero no 'tower' to speak of but it looks like your hq (heli carrier?) will get updated as you unlock stuff through the campaign.
You do need to get through those two fairly lengthy starting missions, before you end up with Kamala and Bruce in the HQ and use JARVIS to pick missions. There are quite a few in the demo as well. -

Registered 14 years agoWatched my 13 year old on this in order to get the free items for Fortnite.
Didn't look too bad but I'm mostly a single player kind of person so probably not for me in the long run.
The lad seemed to like it though. -

Registered 15 years agoHad the beta just been those 2 missions I wouldnt have the best impression of the game, but playing as Black Widow and Iron Man in a few of those missions started to click and feel really good. I can see some of the Destiny comparisons while the combat felt pretty intricate and flowed pretty well and it being with Marvel characters...I dunno, something about it all felt pretty good.
Where is this article that talks about the impressions of Spiderman? -

Registered 10 years agoI actually did feel that bw and iron man were better than the first two, only by then the mission structure got even worse. Run around a room smashing things for 5 mins then end. After the second almost identical one of these I turned it off again. There’s maybe something there but the mission designers just don’t have the chops for it from the looks of it. -

Registered 16 years agoThose are called Drop Zones, they're supposed to be the 5 minute time fillers when you don't have time to play the larger, more interesting missions. I can't remember the names but there's one on a city map, one in a fire forest and one in a snowy area that are longer, more open and more varied. -
