So have they fixed the camera in Sunshine or is it still a bit of a nightmare?

3D World was worse than Sunshine, and the only Mario I couldnít be bothered playing for more than a few hours. 3D Land was better but I canít really remember much of it. Galaxy 1 and particularly 2 are still the best by quite a large margin

Depends how you define Ďworseí I think.

Sunshine was very innovative and inventive, but had real design flaws that made the game a bit janky and verging on impossible in places.

3D World (and imho Odyssey) were a bit safer and less inventive, but were very slick and smooth experiences.

I adored Sunshine at the time but going back to it was painful. I think one this hits people are going to have a lot of challenges with it. But it still has a lot of unique charm and gameplay elements.

3D World felt like the product of a development team going through the motions

3D World felt like a bland rehash of 3D Land for the first couple of worlds, but it really opens up later on. It had loads of secret levels too, and some of them were proper challenging. It basically felt like the 3D version of SMB3 - lots of bite-sized levels each with their throwaway gimmick. I preferred it to Odyssey tbh.

While it's cheap / lazy I don't think they were going for remasters. That's a different approach altogether. I prefer to play the games as close to the original release as possible. The disappointing thing for me is the lack of bonus content - I don't mind at all that the games are emulated / hardly changed.

A 64 remaster might be cool but unless everything is updated I'd rather they left it largely alone. Otherwise it could be a freakish half retro half modern monster.
For £50 Iíd expect a lot more than just making them work on the newest console and upgrading the resolution a bit. Something more like the monkey island remakes where you can switch between old and new would have been ideal.

3d world amwas amazing. Felt like a true 3d versio /successor to super mario world to me.

It had some brilliant creativity in it once you got throught the first couple of training worlds.

My mind boggles that people felt it a poor release in the series!

I thought 3D World was fucking incredible, it's probably my favourite Mario game actually. I'm looking forward to giving it another spin.

@BigOrkWaaagh good to hear I'm not on my own!

I never played the galaxy games (will put the first 1 right soon enough) but would probably agree with 3d world being my favourite. Super mario world has the nostalgia factor though.

Looking forward to the new levels!

I liked 3D world as well. Some of the later levels were really tough.

My favourite memory of 3D world is when my 3 year old erased my almost complete save. I'd beaten all the bonus levels and was working on unlocking the bonus bonus levels (get all the stars, flags, etc). Fun times that was.

Straight into sunshine for me on this, looking forward to it! Also never really tried galaxy much despite getting it and the sequel as I was quickly fed up with the waggle and I believe I missed a gem.

720p resolution? All games look a bit naff when in docked mode on a 4KTV.

Just an FYI that Galaxy controls were being garbage for me until I updated the controllers to the latest version, which sorted it straight out.

I'm feeling a bit deflated about 3D All Stars now :(

I was most looking forward to replaying Mario 64, but it seems to have been given the least love of the bunch, especially since I've become aware of fan projects that run the game in widescreen at 60fps.

The Digital Foundry analysis was also a little upsetting in terms of the little things, such as frame pacing issues (even at 30fps) and delayed sound effects.

I'm living in hope of a patch from Nintendo to at least fix these little niggles, but I doubt it.

The misery surrounding this collection is so over the top. Yes it could be better, yes it probably should be better but its three great games for 16 quid each. 64 is as playable as ever and it has its charms visually. Galaxy is a stone cold classic and sunshine is well, sunshine. Taken for what it is it's a phenomenal package that could have been better. From that perspective it's much easier to enjoy. I'd like to be paid more each month but I'm not. It pays my Bill's takes me on holiday and buys me videogames. Should I worry and gripe about it forever, detracting from the life it does afford me or should I be happy with my lot? Pushing back is good but when it begins to take the joy that is there out of something surely we lose twice? Theres a balance right? It's a video game and a very good one. Enjoy it for what it is or sell it on I say.

Glad that I skipped this one now after watching the DF video. I'll stick to Dolphin or dig out my Wii to play the originals

I missed Galaxy after binning the Wii off for a PS3 back in the day. Just played the first proper level after the tutorial ones and oh my, it's JUST SO JOYFUL! I know you're not allowed to love Nintendo these days without getting labelled an apologist fanboy, but nobody does it quite like they do.

I'm seriously trying to remain positive, and tell myself Nintendo probably didn't want to bastardise their own games into versions that aren't representative of the original games. Nostalgia is a huge part of the 3D All Stars after all.

But then almost everybody's opinion has been "My PC can run these games at 60fps in widescreen with mods galore, so by comparison Nintendo has completely failed."

Its a luxury game for a luxury console - its not water or air or gravity. Just dont buy it.

Do you mean 'luxury' as in 'its not one of lifes necessities' or luxury as in 'ultra premium'?

@YYDeckard exactly. Or do buy it and enjoy it for what it is and not for what you want it to be.

You are allowed to buy it, enjoy it and also think its incredibly half arsed. We didnt all enter a binary state or either rainbows and unicorns or misery in the pit of hades the minute the announcement trailer came out.
