@Vortex808 Thanks. Iíve just been given an estimated delivery time so I might even allow myself to think about setting it up tonight. Hope yours arrives today!
Looking more positive for me too now. It is actually in the nearest city to me as of 10am today. I live in hope it will be delivered this afternoon.

Although, I should probably steel myself to have my hopes dashed.

After a bit of advice, if I may...

Managed to get a Series S for my lad, for his Christmas.

My last XBox was the 360, so out of the loop a bit.

I use the MS Family app to keep some sort of parental control on his laptop. For this, he has his own MS account and is tagged with his DOB, so system knows he's 10.

I'd like to use this on the Series S, so I can manage time online (otherwise he'll be up at 4am each day playing it).

Would I set up the Series S with my MS account, then add him as a new profile with his email? Can I then approve games above the set PEGI age limit (thinking Fortnite - the bain of my life!), so he can play that but not able to just download any inappropriate games?

    Cheers.

There's a dedicated Xbox Family app available to download, I'm just in the process of setting this up myself.

Iíve just done similar with my daughter, sheís in my family at Live as a child and, adding her to the machine seems to have applied age appropriate settings when diggin through the menus... though Iíve tweaked a few, broadcasting with a camera for one. The Family app looks OK, logged in as me and it offered her account as something I could administrate, set age, time, etc limits.

Seems fairly straightforward. Sign up using your account as whichever one you sign in with first will be deemed the master account, then invite a new member using your child's account email. Then you just need to get that account to accept the invite, and you can start playing around with what they can access and how much screen time they can have.

Looks on skimming through it like you can set up their entire week in the planner if you allow a little longer on weekends etc.

Cheers Solid - That's good to hear.

I have the planner on the Family app, which is very useful (basically, homework is done then restrictions off). If I can still tweak the content filters in the XBOX app, then should all be fine.

Hope your kid enjoys it :)

@mothercruncher Perfect - I can relax now. Will probably look to set it before Christmas, then hide away again.

Xbox is much easier for child profiles than ps4 was. You can allow games outwith their allowed age range too if you feel it is appropriate. Mine is now a moodyish teen, so some slack is being given. Still no CoD or GTA though unlike some of his peers, much to his disgust. :-)

Hope sony improve things for this gen, cause it was a massive ballache last gen.

It's here. :) Surprisingly heavy given how small it is. 4 more hours of work to get through!

I can see why people complain- the OS is a classic Microsoft interface, bloated, fussy, confusing, cluttered. Itís genuinely unbelievable they canít do better.

What's worrying is I find it a million times better than their last gen effort. It genuinely made me sell the console it was so bad.

Should always have stuck with the blades and just iterated on them.

Had a little play with my Series S yesterday.
Just Cause 3 is now actually playable, and 360 games look and play amazing.
FarCry New Dawn is crisp and smooth.
Just waiting for Borderlands 3 to update so I can try something next gen(ish).

I have noticed some issues while trying Forza 4 (which runs in 1080p60).

In snowy backgrounds, the picture seems to occasionally produce some vertical lines. It's kinda annoying. I thought maybe it was my horrible TV doing some crap upscaling, but the console was set to 4K already. And when instead I set the console to 1080p (so that the 4K upscaling was done by the TV), the problem disappeared.

Haven't noticed this issue in any other games to be fair, maybe it's Forza in particular?

@Malek86 Iíll have a look when I check it out later. You were right about the D pad, itís so clicky it feels a bit cheap.

I kinda regret not pre-ordering one of these.

They just sound pretty good for £250 and a bit of no fuss casual gaming.

Impressed with it so far, Horizon and Gears both look great and the fast loading is excellent.

Iím getting a little envious myself. I wanted to wait for comparisons to make sure that the XSS is the right one for me, but even Mrs. EMarkM is saying she thinks I should have ordered one in time to get it before Christmas!

Not impressed with Amazon's day one console delivery, so lesson learnt!

Jedi Fallen Order is looking quite nice. A bit soft, but runs great and so far I've seen none of the loading issues that plagued the original.

£280 for Series S plus 3rd party charge kit plus headset (no idea if any good):

I need to look for a new headset, since the series s and x have abandoned an optical sound port and my perfectly fine wireless headset is now defunct as it uses a base station requiring that connection.

    Sigh.

Turtle beach stealth something or others look ok for 90 quid.

i looked into astro a50's, but having spent 250 on an S and another 450 for when i manage to get a series X I am loath to spend that much just now.

I got a pair of the Stealth 700 Gen 2 headphones a couple of months ago. Pretty impressed with them so far, good sound and very comfortable.
