Thanks for your opinion on them , most of my headsets have been from them, so certainly happy to give those a go.

I'll have a look at them later on, although that might be what i had seen before.

@monkman76 Gah! Only just seen this, mate. Thanks for the heads-up but it looks like they're out again now everyone.

On a somewhat interesting note: I notice now that Zoo Tycoon received an Ultimate Edition that caps the framerate at 30fps. This might have been a sensible choice for the Xbox One, but it's inconvenient for the Series S/X.

And unfortunately, that's the only edition available on Game Pass. Luckily I bought the game ages ago (funny thing is that the original is still on sale and much more expensive than the upgraded version).

The Ultimate Edition does have One X enhancements, so for Series X owners it's at least a choice between 4K30 in the remaster and 1080p60 in the original.

I wonder how many other old games had uncapped framerate. And haven't been patched to cap it.

Damn, turns out Blair Witch was uncapped too. It's silky smooth 60fps now. Good an excuse as any to replay it.

I wonder if it's uncapped for X owners too?

My S is a hot little thing. Itís sitting in open space on a table, set not to full power save but the other standby option whereby you can queue up game downloads etc. Seems to constantly be warm, more so than the PS4 ever was.
Not sure if thatís par for the course for such a little box, or perhaps itís all the downloads and updates the thingís been tasked with.

It's definitely hot. But after playing for more than three hours this morning, it never got any louder. I suppose it doesn't matter how hot it gets as long as the circuits can bear it.

My only worry is that the main vent is right on top. That looks like it oughta get clogged with dust soon. I should keep it vertical to be safe, but I wouldn't know where to put it.

The Digital Foundry review has it down as the hottest of the next gen machines, it can reach 67C. Never makes a sound though which is great coming from a PS4 Pro, if the power button wasn't lit up you'd never know it was on.

Facebook seller near me selling a series S with receipt from Microsoft for £275 so Iíve bit.

Reason for selling is that he brought the wrong one for his kids apparently!

I could wait, but I want it sorted for my sons Christmas present. A fair price as well considering some of the scalper prices.

Has anyone tried out red dead redemption 2 on their series S yet? I'd be interested to know if the framerate issues (particularly in the towns) have been sorted from the XB1 version. St Denis was pretty bad in places.

Can't try RDR2 is particular, but so far it's living up to its reputation of having more than twice the CPU and GPU power of the One. All the games I've tried had their framerate locked, and in some cases, they locked to 60fps even when the original struggled to hit 30. Blair Witch and Zoo Tycoon come to mind. So a 30fps game should be no problem.

Would be interesting to see some other games with unlocked framerates. Not many spring to mind right now.

I'd certainly hope so consider the framerate was already rock solid in the One X. Amazed that people made it to the end of the last generation still rocking the XB1. And pretty jealous of the huge leap they'll get moving to next gen (having the One X slightly reduces the next gen leap)

Gears 5 title screen is a disappointment after being used to it in 4k on the one x, but i'm sure multiplayer will be ok. Probably won't play too much though, but just wanted to check it out again.

Gears Tactics appears to be pretty decent, but getting used to a turn by turn thing will be interesting. Or tough. Or both! 😃

Any idea where/when more stock of the Series S might be landing on UK shores? Game (*hoch* *spit*) seem to think between now and the 18th of December, but I'm hoping to find something sooner.

I got mine by setting an alert on Stock Informer. There was a window of about an hour on the Saturday morning before launch when these popped up on Amazon. No idea if it's happened since but worth doing.

@Bedders cool, much appreciated. Dunno why that didn't occur to me - I used them to get Ring Fit Adventure at the start of lockdown V1! :)

Picked these up today, they seem pretty good so far tbh, nice sound and light nd comfy.

I have just updated the firmware on them using the TB updating program which was nice and easy. Linking them to xbox was easy, the only thing I can see is that occasionally they seem to switch the xbox on when I switch them on, since it obviously thinks any linked device is a controller or sign in/switch on event which is odd. I'll either get used to it, or I'm doing something wrong!

    :-D

Played a couple of hours of Halo MCC in 120fps this evening and it was pretty great. Much more noticeable than in something like Ori where it didnít seem to make much difference. With the constant planning of the camera in Halo you can really feel it.

I'm toying with the notion of getting one of these but I'm not sure how good a fit it would be for me as I have an ageing PC that would probably still outperform this in most ways (Skylake i5, Vega 56, 16GiB of RAM so more than this) and MS have committed to all their first party stuff coming to PC too. And I have a Switch. And yet, what a delightful looking machine - not since the GameCube have we had a console that looks this good.

Xbox Series S looking like a decent emulation machine, and you can set it up today using the official Dev Mode app. All official as far as Xbox is concerned, no re-flashing or voided warranties or anything.

Is anyone seeing crap download speeds on grabbing stuff from game pass?

I'm wired into my home network and struggling to get to 10Mbs download, when any other device on my network (PC, PS4 Pro, etc) is easily 5-6 times that speed during downloads.

Somewhat taking the shine off the idea of experimenting with game pass when the things are 80Gb in size and will take 12 hours to grab. Not the gaming sampling buffet I was hoping for!

Seems that the console will limit download speeds if there's any game or app open, even if it's only running in the background. Strange idea, but the PS4 was like that too.

If you have anything suspended, quit it first.

Ubisoft confirmed that Rainbow Six will be receiving its upgrade on December 1st.

    https://news.ubisoft.com/en-us/article/6vbxn1d6GsDMjqKHL4Z9Im/rainbow-six-siege-launches-on-ps5-and-xbox-series-x--s-on-december-1

Can't see it on the English page, but on the Italian page it's said that the game runs at 4K60 or dynamic 4K120 on PS5/XSX, and 1728p60 or 1080p120 on XSS. Of course, it's all "up to". Probably not locked framerate.

But the PS5 is getting 120fps too, so it sounds like a proper next-gen patch. And the game is on Game Pass, so I might just try it out.

Picked up my Series S today after upgrading from a 2014 Xbox One. The loading of the games whilst documented elsewhere is such a massive improvement. As I have approx 30 mins playtime each day due to small people this removes the choice paralysis, i.e. FH4 would never usually be touched, neither would NMS, and so on. Over the moon!
