Huh? As opposed to what game? I think DDS is one of the few games with good acting and amongst RPGs, it's only Disgaea, Atelier Iris and a few minutes of FFX that do a better job.

I wasn't comparing it to other games but say, Rockstar's or PoP:SoT. I did see only five minutes of it so there might be good bits but what I saw was just as bad as most American anime dubs. I think it's a good thing most voiced JRPGs allow for the voices to be switched off.

Does that mean you saw it at that price too or that it's worth getting Bob? :)

I just dunno whether the game is worth the effort or not.
Sorry being lazy. It was merely 'I'm interested in this too' thing. :)

For 20 quid I'd say yes. If you keep it in mint condition it should be worth a lot more in 4-5 years ;-)

Seriously though, SMT definitely divides opinions. Some people seem to love it (valli, Shinji) while others (myself, Decoded) didn't really enjoy it. It is very old-school, so the meat of the game consists of fighting (you'll do that a lot) and crawling through dungeons. It's pretty frustrating at times, but also very rewarding once you get the hang of the battle system. Not a game for everyone, that's for sure.

When was the FFXII Japanese release date set back to next year? I had presumed (well, hoped, but whatever) they would set a date at the end of this month when they show the game again.

Update: Added Langrisser III and Endless Saga, removed Makai Kingdom - which has been released today (in the States that is).

I wasn't going to get Makai Kingdom after I got thoroughly out of my depth in Phantom Brave but in the end I couldn't resist. Hopefully it won't treat all the objects as seperate characters this time round...

Radiata Stories (Square Enix) - September 6

What do you know about this one, itamae? Apparently it's by Tri-Ace and looks pretty good, but I'm concerned about more gimmicky stuff like Star Ocean's invention system and huge difficulty spikes :|

To be honest I've known sweet fuck all about Radiata Stories (except for the probable release date) up till 5 minutes ago.

*ahem* Anyway, this is what I gathered from the previews:
    - fantasy RPG with real-time battle system
    - visibly roaming enemies, you initiate battles by touching them (think SO3)
    - more than 150 recruitable characters
    - battle system similar to SO3, except that you can only play the main character
    - non-linear story progression
    - very nice graphics, especially in motion

    Well, colour me interested \o/

    Holy Suikoden, Batman!

Colour me interested too. I'll probably hate it though :D

Update: Added Sigma Star Saga for the GBA. Pictures of this great-looking RPG/shmup hybrid can be found on the front page.

Liked the look of Radiata Stories from the word go. Seems to have a more traditional feel to it. Plus, you can kick things and jump! Interactivity with an enviroment is so important in a RPG. That's why stuff like FFX and Shadow Hearts can grow so monotonous.

EDIT: Sigma Star look interesting too, but I'm more interested in that other title that came out in the States recently. Ummm ..?

    /won't search

Oh, come on SquareEnix! They will have invented real giant metal airships with guns on by then!

Cheers codename, I've updated the list.

I'm afraid we won't see metal airships anytime soon. I mean we don't even have flying cars yet, and it's 2005 already.

Just seen a Shadow Hearts 3 trailer which looks kind of interesting in that uniquely Shadow Hearts way.

    i.e. daft
  • Deleted user 30 July 2005 09:55:55
\o/ Yay, someone else who doesn't get Shadow Hearts!

I've only tried the first one, but I _really_ tried to enjoy it! Ended up selling it 2nd hand 15-smth gameplay hours later.

I like the idea of Shadow Hearts but it's done in such a way to totally destroy any atmosphere it might create. They could do an exciting game set in that period with magic and monsters without it being quite so...daft.

Still, I do like that trailer for the new one.

Shameless bump: Sigma Star Saga (GBA) has been released in the USA and a copy of it is currently heading in my direction.

    Exemplary review here.

    And it's just 19 quid from VG+.
