Looks great but I'm holding out for a Switch version. It's not a sit down in front of a tv game for me.

True. Does seem like it's missed a trick by not launching on Switch. That said, this could be a rare double dip for me. I don't think I have the resolve to wait for the PC version, let alone a Switch one.

I really liked the first but I find that my attention for RLs is limited - I go ham for a short amount of time and then fizzle out.
As such, I'm not sure about going in on this. I know I'll love it for the hours I do play it though.

The review made it sound like a nightmare - like the original but harder/more complicated - that's not something I'm looking for!

I dusted off the Vita last night to try the first one again - I never got into Spelunky for some reason, despite “enjoying” it whenever I played it.

    Looking forward to trying 2.....

Yea there are 4 characters when you start and I'm guessing there's a bunch more that unlock throughout the game.

Didn't ever finished the first one, but I had a blast playing it. The controls were so tight and the array of bonkers things that could happen was really great.

I got Noita recently in a bid to rekindle those Spelunky vibes and whilst it's pretty good, it's not as amazing as a few places have made out imo. Tbh, nothing has really come close to Spelunky despite many imitators. It only takes a few slightly clunky mechanics to ruin a roguelike. You're playing the same game over and over, so it needs to play perfectly. Dead Cells is as polished as Spelunky, but it's a very different beast. That's the best chopping. Spelunky is the best adventuring.

Well I've not managed to get past 1-3 yet! It seems much harder than the original.

Damn that cursed pot! It's just too tempting for me, and I usually end up breaking it halfway through the level.

Oh, and those moles can fuck right off.

It's out on the New Zealand PS Store now. Think I might treat myself.

Desperately wish I could have a Vita version of this. The original was perfect on Vita.

    I got to 1-2. Yay?

(Oh god, why did I buy this. I'm so bad at it.)

I didn't "get" the original. Generally universally loved Indie games I'm a big fan of but I couldn't stand this. Dunno what I'm missing, just found pretty much everything about it irritating including how it controls.

I do think it's easy to bounce off rogues quickly if they don't click. I didn't get Binding of Isaac at all when I tried that. Just seemed like a distillation of the most tedious parts of 2D Zelda games. But I probably didn't give it long enough.

Beating Hell on the first one is the single most satisfying gaming achievement for me.

I'd love to get into this, but there's no chance of getting enough TV time these days for it. I'll wait for a Switch port.

Yeah me too, couldn't get on with the finicky platforming. I understand that I am objectively wrong however.

Something about the aesthetic really rubs me the wrong way too. I kind of hate the cutesy sprites and don't think they fit in the game world.

Heard there were some bad framerate drops on world 2 on base ps4? Would be keen to see if there's any other reports of this, because for a game all about precision that could be really rough.

Otherwise really excited to start playing later.

I don't understand people's problems with the controls, which I honestly think are absolute perfection. Compared to say Rogue Legacy which I wanted to like but ended up hating because I found the controls far too "floaty".

But then, I'm not particularly fond of Mario's inertia style controls, so who am I to argue :)

Yea I like the controls..felt a bit weird that the default setting on spelunky 2 has you running by default and pressing a button to slow down but it's easily switched over.

Yeah, the first thing I did was switch the controls back to Spelunky 1 style.

Me too. I just know that if I buy the PS4 version it’ll suddenly one out on Switch!

Bought it tonight and played for an hour and a half. Made it to 2-1. Definitely tougher than the original but still feels like Spelunky.

I know I'll get tons of enjoyment out of this. :)
