I was soooo tempted to buy this at lunchtime - I had it and Metroid Pinball there in my hands, but in the end... I went with Lunar Dragon Song!
Yes call me mad but I know me and I know my gaming skills/habits and I'm bound to get more out of a sub-standard JRPG than I am from a state-of-the-art racer. The pinball was mighty tempting but I was put off by the packaging blurb which mentioned 'boss stages'. ;p -

But just playing Rainbow Road - 1 win away from a guaranteed championship first place.
Final lap right at the end, blue shell. Then every single time I was placed back on the track I got knocked off until finally 7th placed knocked me off, and I was last, and everyone else had crossed the finishing line.
This game is fun at times but seriously it's such a lottery at others :/ -

Registered 20 years agoYeah, blue shell was a bit broken in that game IIRC. I think they fixed it for the 3DS iteration, but I didn't play that version nearly as much as I used to play the DS one - some of the level design is the best we've seen in a 3D MK game. -

Registered 10 years agoYeah each level has its own personality which I really like. I think when I finally get a 3DS I will get Mario Kart for that too, even though it can be frustrating

A perfectly timed mushroom is all it takes to escape the blue shell on the DS game, but it's an unlikely scenario thanks to the likeliness of ever getting such an item in first place.
Mario Kart DS probably has the strongest line-up of tracks in the series. There are so many memorable courses and it even got first pick at the retro courses, so naturally has some of the best courses from the earlier games, too.
