Cant they introduce a one week delay between creating an account and being able to post to the forum? Surely that would reduce that constant spam? Is it better to ‘report the user’ or add the offenders to the ‘spammer needs banning’ thread? |

Registered 5 years agoIt’s been tried about three times now for what it’s worth, either dying extremely quickly or lack of care resulting in having someone store all user details in plaintext for some hackers to dump all over the internet. -

Registered 16 years agoAllthough ironically, what we could do to ensure engagement and footfall to another platform is to set up a bot to constantly spam links to it from here.

Registered 18 years agoHow about creating a group? Not sure if existing threads can be moved into a group, but if they can, might be a good way to wall off the spammers on the main forum in the short term, and obviously much easier than creating a new forum somewhere.

Registered 9 years ago@quadfather I have been a member of several forums where lifeboat forums were created to keep the community together. The hardest thing is getting people to move over. And you need people that set it up to be completely impartial. You end up with the owner making the mods his friends at the site. If someone joins, whom they dislike, then they aren’t usually given a chance. This leads to splits in the community and it rarely goes anywhere. -

Registered 12 years agoWhat if each evening we pick the most popular fp article, 1 person posts a short message asking for help from EG to stop the spam, including a link to the forum, and that person posts in here and then we all upvote it?
I don’t think that would violate any posting guidelines. -

Registered 9 years agoI came here after the CnVG and Official Nintendo Magazine forums closed down. I used to lurk here, mostly on the front page. It seemed like a cool place compared to some other established forums. And it is. Like others have said, the forums have introduced me to films, TV and music I would have missed. -

Registered 5 years agoThe impetus for AATG was the mod policy at the time, wasn’t it? Or at least one of the forums. There was a period where nearly every thread was derailed by people like albundy etc and that was very much a “I’ll take my ball elsewhere” thing. But yeah, point taken. -
