I phoned them again and they confirmed that they are cancelling all orders. Och well, some you win, some you lose. |

Registered 18 years agoI'm slightly relieved about this. I really didn't need it, but it was such a bargain I thought I'd have it. Oh well, better get using my A95! -

They only have to honour it if they take your money. -

No, it's down to the seller as far as websites are concerned. You're thinking about shop retail.

Even high street retail don't have to honour price errors. They changed the law a few years back. An advertised price is considered 'invitation to treat' rather than a binding contract of any form. -

There is another law (Consumer something act 1983) that means if a retailer can be shown to have been intentionlly misleading then they can get fined £5k for each customer

Registered 18 years agoI don't really think you lot should be feeling angry about this. It was more likely that it wasn't going to work than it was. Imagine if you were in a similar position to play.. -
I wouldn't say I was angry per se, just extremely disappointed. At £260 I could afford it, and was really looking forward to getting some decent photography equipment to play with. I'll just have to save instead. -

Registered 18 years agoYeh, fair points. I think I'd feel the same if I actually wanted it in the first place. -
Took the words right out of my mouth Mouse, now I'm considering getting a Fujifilm F10 instead.. -

Play.com have got the Nikon D50 digital SLR (body only) listed at £260 which is a good £200+ less than anywhere else (e.g Jessops have it at £550).
Not in stock as it's not released until 22/08 and probably a price mis-match but worth a go, no?
It's now up for £420.
I'm currently searching for a good price on a D50 + 18/70mm lense (kit lense with D70).
If anyone's interested Dixons are currently doing the D50 with the kit lense 18/55mm for £393.

Registered 19 years agoJust found out a colleague of mine can get them direct from Nikon with a 40% discount so I've ordered a D50 with the 18-70mm.

Would be.
I'm guessing a f75 lens wouldn't be compatible. -

Yes yes and yes. The only difference is the focal length. Because of the slightly smaller size of the digital sensor, you have to multiply the focal length by 1.5, so a 50mm lens becomes effectively a 75mm lens. This is because the light projected by the lens onto the back of the camera overlaps the edge of the sensor more than it would overlap the edge of 35mm film. I have four 'film' lenses for my DSLR.

Edit: Okay, seriously, would a film lens work on a digital body?
More of an issue is the chip in the lens because that could interfere with the metering used on a D50 body, but it wouldn't mean you couldn't use the lens, just that you'd have to meter manually. But that only applies to really old lenses. -

Better still the 'photo gallery' thread.
Check out the "Any photographers in the house?" thread. Lots of advice/info on there -

It's a fantastic camera at £550, at this price if it's for real you should buy all you can afford and flog them on for a profit, and keep a couple as spares.
Is this a good camera - specially considering the price?

Between £100 and £1000, or more if you're going for high quality pro lenses. But there's a big second hand market for Nikon lenses so bargains abound. Take a look at the photo gallery thread, we have a long discussion about lenses.
How much would one expect to pay for a lense?
Just an approximation as I've no idea whether it's £10 or £1000.

Just a note that you can take more than decent photos on a compact, in fact sometimes the lens on a good compact is better quality than a cheap third party zoom on a reflex. Don't buy a DSLR because you think it will shoot better pics, buy a DSLR because you're interested in learning about photography techniques and fiddling with manual settings. Just my €0.02. .gif)
phAge, are you now in the US then, or are you talking about Greenland.

28 quid?!?!?
Those places are incredible. You can find the most amazing stuff in charity shops, the old dears have no clue what they're worth, nor the people giving them stuff (i.e. Pirotic's nan-in-law). I've found DVD box sets worth 200 quid for a fiver before now. No 500 quid lenses for 28 notes though.
