Here's an quite interesting article titled PSP Vs. DS War Rages which actually has *gasp* facts and figures to back it up. It compares the two's performance in Japan and the US.

There is one major gripe I have with article, though and it's this line:

Without SM64DS being bought along with nearly every launch DS, PSP software sales would already be leading, despite Nintendo's US head start

That's a bit like saying "If Chelsea had scored more goals in the match they would've won", non?

    Anyways... Vive la difference!

Thanks for your contribution. If facts and figures about the DS & PSP don't interest you why did you bother posting?

come on, there are no facts. there are sales figures, which have absolutely nothing to do with quality.

Try doing a search on sales figures and you'll find plenty. In fact there's a thread dedicated to just that hence this thread is pointless. Both machines are successful, what else is there to say.

erm.... sales figures are facts aren't they?

    /is confused

And I don't think I was making any statements about quality, just thought it was interesting to see how the two fledgling handhelds are doing.

Next time I'm come in and go "N1nT3|\|d05 G|-|3Y" and we can start a proper flame-war if you'd both prefer. Geez.

    No facts?

You said yourself there are sales figures. if these aren't facts then what is? They aren't some randomly generated number. The thread clearly wasn't intended to state which was better quality.

    I mean wtf?

Perhaps we should just end the forum now 'cos, like, stuff happens, what else is there left to say.

@technos: Wow. So all this nit-picking from you and your behaving like a dick is because I posted something that you felt should've gone into another thread?

Cheers cowboy. It'll be interesting to see how the DS fares once its 'big hitters' arrive on the scene. And there's GTA on the PSP looming which should send sales into the stratosphere!

jump super stars releases today in japan btw. 8th.

in a couple of days we'll have the first day sales for that one. 200,000+ pre-orders and all, it should explode. if it doesn't, that would be sad.

I've heard that it's not going to get a Western release because it's a licencing nightmare what with the 100+ different characters. Anyone know if that's true?

    /hovers over Lik-Sang buy button

it probably won't, but I'm not sure licensing is anything to do with it as all characters are jump magazine manga properties and goes as one license in japan .. maybe anime/manga licensing isn't separate in the US, don't remember.. have read about this though so I should actually know.. but eh

anyway, it's a sure buy in japanese form for me. will be interesting to find out how much I won't 'get' of it.. but since it's a fighter it'll probably go down okay. even the comicstrip powerup things.

Yeah, I think PSP/DS sales in the EU will emulate the US once the PSP gets released here (perhaps the competition will be good for consumers?). Whether that's because of teh games or because of the powerful graphics and look of the machine though is anyone's guess...

I still think everyone should own a DS regardless though ;)

Not sure, but the Naruto games are being released outside of Japan, which is great! Of course, Ninty should jsut make a SSB game! Hopefully Jump will get a release too!

EDIT: and yes, that comment about SM64DS was really dumb :/

don't know, asphalt. the ds release has definitely been better for europe than it was for the us. and the upcoming ds titles that should be strong sellers are releasing around the same time here as there. competition usually don't drive prices up, so yeah, all good for el consumeros.

anyway. I'm trying hard to compile a list of interesting upcoming PSP games, if anyone's got suggestions I might've overlooked for the list.. that would be helpful.

(daxter, frantix, pursuit force, metal gear acid 2, spinout, sticky balls, tokobot, xyanide)

The PSP pisses all over the DS, but I think the article is slightly biased towards Sony's machine.

Both systems have now established themselves in Japan as well as the US, so where do they currently stand? We break down each system's top 10, as well as examine why the PSP is dominating America, while the DS conquers Japan.

If the PSP is dominating America, then why has the DS sold more consoles and games? In time the PSP will rule especially when it's launched in Europe.

I got my PSP with a 2gb memory stick...is surprised with the US sales figures PSP games to console almost 2 to 1. I won't be paying £39.99 for a game.... " You know wot I mean A'rry. "

You've probably been there but Gamefaqs has an upcoming PSP release list. Not sure how comprehensive it is but there might be a few you've overlooked.
