I'd always figured "World Class" meant would get into the squad for the "Earth" team if we were to enter some kind of inter-planetary footie tournament.

So, right now, Kane is definately in the squad. Not sure he starts ahead of Ronaldo up front?

Noway would I be sending Kane as an ambassador of earth. What if the Aliens think were all like that?

For me to be world class you have to be able to influence games significantly at the very top levels of the game. Kane's job is to score the goals that drag his team through to finals. His poor technique will always hold him back in that respect, when the pressure is on your technique gets challenged more than ever and he is usually found wanting - like most English players

The header in the Croatia game was a case in point, his technique completely let him down at a critical time. He's definitely a very, very good player and a top goalscorer but he's not world class in my opinion (and that's all it is an opinion)

They don't play the same position. Kane would be the equivalent of Benzema with him for Madrid.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but it's very poorly informed with regards to that first paragraph.

He should have buried those chances against Croatia but not sure that's down to his technique.

He's a world-class striker, to say otherwise is madness.

@You-can-call-me-kal Not sure it's poorly informed as it's been informed by watching him since he got into the first team. We'll see at the end of his career just how far he goes in the game but at this point I'd put him more in the Lukaku bracket than the Thierry Henry one

Messi isn’t world class because he didn’t get Argentina through to the final

I honestly think a lot of the 'not world class' stuff is just because he's a boring, unassuming guy.

If he had stupid tramlines shaved into his head and invented his own pose for taking penalties he'd be right up there.

He does do a funny little jog on the spot before the run up though

This is all stupid as no fucker agrees on what "world class" really mean.

Kane is obviously an excellent striker, let's leave it at that.

He got some goals in the CL against Dortmund and some Cypriot team and scored against the worst team in the World Cup but didn't score against RM or any decent country in the WC.
    Maybe downgrade to "very good".

I don't agree on your definition of excellent, what's your definition of very good

I've been saying this for years. It's the same reason Kante isn't rated above Pogba despite being twice the player.

The irony is that when players are overly concerned with their image and 'brand' they get constantly criticised for it and told to focus on their football, and then when players like that do come along we underrate them and criticise them for being boring.

I think it's outrageous that Sterling continues to have breakfast even though England didn't win the WC

I can see what you are saying.

Arguably Benzema plays a different role to Kane too, though. Benzema is one of those Giroud types who unselfishly facilitates another forward, rather than a goal machine.

Still, if Kane had to play as a "facilitator", rather than a finisher, he would be ace at it. Maybe that's what he will end up doing one day, if he moves to Spain and plays alongside a "galactico"...

Anyway. By my definiton of "world class", Kane is world class because he would get into my imaginary 23 man squad that I send into space to represent Earth at an interplanetary Worlds' Cup.

23 Man "World Class" Squad. Off the top of my head.

    1. Courtois
    2. Lloris
    3. Schmeical. Or one of the Brazillian goalies. Or De Gea...
    4. Marcelo
    5. Alba
    6. Varane
    7. Godin
    8. The other Uruguay centre back.
    9. Trippier
    10. Sergio Ramos (c)
    10. Modric
    11. De Bruyne
    12. Rakatic
    13. Pogba
    14. Kante
    15. Bentancur
    16. Messi
    17. Ronaldo
    18. Kane
    19. Mbape
    20. Fellani (plan B, baby)
    21. ...I don't really rate Griezmann and don't want to put Neymar in... maybe Salah?
    22. ...I think I need another defender...
    23. ...and a utility / defensive midfielder?

Kane is a good player but the Golden Boot flattered him.

Ronaldo only got 4 goals but 3 were against Spain.

The man's right. Goals against Spain count double, so actually Ronaldo finished on 7.
