I'd always figured "World Class" meant would get into the squad for the "Earth" team if we were to enter some kind of inter-planetary footie tournament. So, right now, Kane is definately in the squad. Not sure he starts ahead of Ronaldo up front? |

Registered 13 years agoFor me to be world class you have to be able to influence games significantly at the very top levels of the game. Kane's job is to score the goals that drag his team through to finals. His poor technique will always hold him back in that respect, when the pressure is on your technique gets challenged more than ever and he is usually found wanting - like most English players
The header in the Croatia game was a case in point, his technique completely let him down at a critical time. He's definitely a very, very good player and a top goalscorer but he's not world class in my opinion (and that's all it is an opinion) -

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but it's very poorly informed with regards to that first paragraph.

He's a world-class striker, to say otherwise is madness. -

Registered 13 years ago@You-can-call-me-kal Not sure it's poorly informed as it's been informed by watching him since he got into the first team. We'll see at the end of his career just how far he goes in the game but at this point I'd put him more in the Lukaku bracket than the Thierry Henry one -

If he had stupid tramlines shaved into his head and invented his own pose for taking penalties he'd be right up there. -

Kane is obviously an excellent striker, let's leave it at that. -

He got some goals in the CL against Dortmund and some Cypriot team and scored against the worst team in the World Cup but didn't score against RM or any decent country in the WC.

Maybe downgrade to "very good". -

I've been saying this for years. It's the same reason Kante isn't rated above Pogba despite being twice the player.

The irony is that when players are overly concerned with their image and 'brand' they get constantly criticised for it and told to focus on their football, and then when players like that do come along we underrate them and criticise them for being boring. -

Arguably Benzema plays a different role to Kane too, though. Benzema is one of those Giroud types who unselfishly facilitates another forward, rather than a goal machine.
Still, if Kane had to play as a "facilitator", rather than a finisher, he would be ace at it. Maybe that's what he will end up doing one day, if he moves to Spain and plays alongside a "galactico"...
Anyway. By my definiton of "world class", Kane is world class because he would get into my imaginary 23 man squad that I send into space to represent Earth at an interplanetary Worlds' Cup. -

The man's right. Goals against Spain count double, so actually Ronaldo finished on 7.
