Hmmm, so am I too old to be thinking of taking Friday 15 June and Monday 18 June on either annual leave or research days to absolutely binge watch the opening weekend of the WC? :D

I totally remember ditching school to watch the '98 opening ceremony (and subsequently seeing Scotland get bummed by Brazil).

Oi! you're never too old for time off for the world cup, and if scotland *ever* bloody qualify again I'll be taking the time off for their games. I took a half-day off work to watch each of their games in that world cup.

I still feel a bit sorry for tom boyd after Brazil's second goal.

"Are you doing anything on July 11th?"

"Erm watching the winner of match 59 vs the winner of match 60"

"Oh OK there's an open air cinema I thought we could go to as a date night. Its Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"

So instead of watching a world cup semi final I'll be watching sodding Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri whatever the fuck that is in the cold and rain.

It probably isn't much consolation but given the fact that I'm not even exactly sure what's happening tomorrow, from my perspective, there's a certain superhero element to the:

"Erm watching the winner of match 59 vs the winner of match 60"
    response.

It is now what I hope to be doing. My mid-year resolution.

Although I would like to see that film too at some point...

Any of the London crowd fancy meeting up to watch a couple of games after work this year?

Non-England games i'm thinking, easier to get a table, and less tw*ts about.

Note - i am not offering to organise. Tue/Wed/Fri works best for me work-wise in terms of childcare responsibilities.

Sounds good. Friday would be best so that I can drink without having to worry about work the next day.

I work in Battersea so somewhere central is ok. What's that pub you go to for the curry meet up? Is it the Marquis Cornwallis?

You only realise how poor that England squad is when it's put in front of you.

I dunno. There's a few there making up the numbers, but our first 11 should be pretty sound.

Mind you the rest of the UK teams are in a pretty sorry state.

Actually, that midfield will get plenty of the ball.....just donít expect it to go anywhere but sideways.

Lol is that true about Tom Heaton? He's on the stand-by list, which Hart didn't even make, despite not having played any football since September 2017?

Ouch, that's got to hurt the old flaky-scalped ego :D

Just goes to show how little depth there is in the English game when you need to fill out the team with players who can barely make their first team. The fact that their are double the number of defenders as there are other midfielders should be the biggest warning sign.

Not really. Players don't really fall into one of three categories anymore. It's not like we literally have only 5 players in the whole squad who can play in the middle of the park.

Do you remember when the ONLY problem we supposedly had was who was going to play on the left hand side?

Hart being dumped is the best thing about all of this.

I like not having any superstars in the team (apart from Kane and Welbeck).

It's pretty well-balanced, I can see us winning it quite easily.

I think that squad looks ok to be honest. Some good young players and the first 11 looks decent enough.

Seeing as we generally only play one up front, I would have maybe dropped Welbeck and taken someone like Shelvey.
