Well ... my Meteos arrived whilst I was away on vacation, so upon arriving back at home last sunday, I had a quick go.
I've been playing a bit here and there over the past days.

According to the stats, I've had it on for 5 hours or so 3.5 hours of which I spent playing.

I was impressed to start. It's fun and addictive.
However, now that i "get" it and seem to have gotten a bit more apt at it, I feel it already lost some of it's shine.

I was playing a bit last night before I went to and found myself thinking "this is a bit pointless isn't it?".
And I ended up listlessly leafing through what to do next.

I mean it's a good game and it's fun, kinda. But somehow I don't think I'll be firing it up all that much anymore.

    Anyone else have this?
    Just me?

Pointless? That depends on how much of a nihilist you wanna be. Ulimately, it's all pointless anyway, including playing games. They're just one way of passing the time quickly and enjoyably. If your game isn't doing that for you, get rid of it. I'll have yer copy of Meteos.

Not played Meteos, but this is exactly the problem I always have with puzzle games. Now of course I realise it's not more or less pointless to play a puzzle game than, say, a story-driven game, but, well, it feels more pointless. I've never been the kind of gamer that could waste infinite hours with Tetris and the like. Even when a puzzle game is fun, the feeling that I am wasting my time is more obvious than with other genres.

Getting a high score or fastest time is still one of the biggest kicks I get in gaming - and there's plenty of that to be done in Meteos.

You say fun and addictive - I say whatelseadoyaneeda?

Yeah well that's my point Murbal. :-/

I first fired it up on Sunday ..that's 4 days ago.
    And I thought ... "OOoweeeee .. fun .. addictive".

Last night, I found myself thining.
OK ... so .. simple mode.
    Nope.
Deluge .. hmm tried each planet. Put down a score. Can't be arsed to go in and try to beat'em.

Time war .. hmm no. Just done 100 and 1000.

Start trip. Done one of each. You get through and the game resets .. stupid.

Maybe a simple mode with 3 cpu opponents?

nah ... I think I'll go to bed.
    *sigh*

It just feels as i'm hovering over the game options that I've explored them all and it's more of the same from now on.

Guess I fall in the same category as UncleLou ... puzzling just isn't my thing.

I know what you mean. But what I like about Meteos is that once you do pick a game mode you just keep playing.
Currently I'm tring to unlock planet meteos which will take me a while yet. Another clincher for me is the music, call me strange but some of the music is brilliant, in fact I dont think there is a tune I dislike.
Multiplayer would really give this extra life. Heres hoping that you can use some tunneling software to play this over the internet in the future.

I think there's a far more longevity in this than many games I've played just because of the sheer number of different things you can:

Play through each of the different star trip modes and watch all 12 different endings (then play thorough them again on harder modes and try not to die not to mention try and get through the mulitbranching mode without losing a challenge)

Open up all the planets in the Registry and get all the items and music (I'm 20 hours in and still not opened up everything)

Get high scores on all planets in Deluge... then beat 'em

Get the fastest time/highest scores in Time War (if you've not got less that 8 secs on 100 meteo war you are lA|\/|3r!! ;))

Plus you can just noodle around in Simple mode on planets that suit your playing style.

That's why I love this game. Not matter how much or little time I have there's always a mode to fill it and once you start it's very, very hard to stop.

Had exactly the same feeling with Zoo Keeper and Polarium, fun to play, but little or no sense of achieving(sp?) anything other than beating a highscore, which i feel to be unrewarding.

    Crazy talk.

Ja Long - have you tried Another Code? It's short but it's perfectly formed and is all narrative.
